Human Resource Manager
Location: Walker, MI | In-Person
Schedule: Full-Time | 40 hours/week

We are seeking an experienced, people-focused HR Manager/HR Leader to join our Client's growing team and take ownership of key HR initiatives across our organization. This is an excellent opportunity for a seasoned HR professional who can operate independently, partner directly with leadership, and serve as a trusted HR resource for employees and managers across both office and field environments.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in employee relations, labor/union relations, multi-state HR, compliance, culture initiatives, and HR operations, with the leadership experience to manage HR functions and guide a small HR team.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead HR operations and serve as a trusted advisor to employees, managers, and senior leadership
- Foster a positive employee relations environment and coach leaders through workplace issues, performance concerns, corrective actions, and disciplinary matters
- Develop, administer, and analyze employee/culture surveys and use feedback to identify opportunities for improving employee engagement and workplace culture
- Develop, update, and implement HR policies, procedures, SOPs, and best practices across the organization
- Oversee HR compliance across multiple states, including FMLA, disability, employment regulations, and other applicable requirements
- Manage union field manpower in partnership with project managers
- Partner with leadership and Safety on employee grievances, disciplinary matters, and labor relations issues
- Build and maintain effective relationships with union employees and union leadership
- Partner with Finance and benefits brokers to administer competitive benefits programs and resolve employee issues
- Lead talent management initiatives, including workforce planning, recruiting, onboarding, employee development, and succession planning
- Develop and deliver employee development and leadership training programs
- Oversee the performance management process and coach leaders on employee performance and corrective actions
- Maintain accurate employee and benefits information within HR/ERP systems
- Support internal communications, including company newsletters and organizational updates
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of 1–2 HR professionals
- Oversee and/or support payroll processing and ensure accurate payroll-related information
- Maintain a visible HR presence across the corporate office, remote offices, and job sites
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business, or a related field
- 10+ years of progressive HR experience
- Demonstrated ability to independently lead HR functions and advise organizational leadership
- Experience supporting a multi-state workforce and managing related HR compliance requirements
- Strong, hands-on union/labor relations experience required
- Experience working with union leadership, grievances, and contract-related matters
- Experience managing or participating in employee/culture surveys and using results to improve employee engagement and workplace culture
- Strong employee relations experience, including coaching leaders through performance, disciplinary, and workplace matters
- Experience creating, updating, and implementing HR policies, procedures, or SOPs
- Hands-on experience with payroll processing, payroll review, or payroll oversight
- Experience working with ERP and/or HR management systems
- Strong knowledge of employee relations, labor relations, HR compliance, performance management, and HR operations
- M&A integration experience is a plus

We are looking for an established HR professional who has progressed beyond a traditional HR generalist role and is comfortable owning HR responsibilities, advising leadership, and making independent decisions.
You should be someone who can walk into a complex employee relations or labor relations situation, partner with leadership, determine the appropriate course of action, and see the issue through to resolution.
