Job summary

Pursuit Aerospace in Euclid, OH is seeking a Lean Manufacturing Engineer Co-op to support continuous improvement across our aerospace manufacturing facility. You will apply Lean and Kaizen principles on the shop floor to improve safety, quality, delivery, productivity, and workflow while working closely with operators, engineers, and the KPO team.

This hands-on role involves prototyping production-ready solutions, documenting standard work, and maintaining compliance with our quality systems.

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in an accredited university pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
  • Authorized to work in the U.S. on a full-time basis without sponsorship now or in the future.
  • Must be able to perform work subject to ITAR/EAR regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Support continuous improvement projects focused on manufacturing processes, production flow, safety, quality, and productivity.
  • Apply Lean Manufacturing and Kaizen principles to identify waste and implement improvements.
  • Work collaboratively with Operators, Engineers, Leads, Quality, EH&S, and the KPO team to develop improvement opportunities.
  • Support the development, modification, and implementation of production equipment, fixtures, and other manufacturing solutions while maintaining operator safety.
  • Rapidly prototype and develop right-sized, production-ready equipment and solutions to support manufacturing operations.
  • Utilize shop machinery, materials, hand tools, and other equipment to create or modify custom components and manufacturing solutions.
  • Support the design and development of mechanical components, fixtures, tooling, and equipment used in manufacturing processes.
  • Participate in Kaizen events, 3S workshops, and other continuous improvement activities.
  • Support flow line improvements and, as needed, participate in manufacturing operations to gain a firsthand understanding of processes and identify improvement opportunities.
  • Develop an understanding of engineering drawings, dimensions, symbols, and geometric tolerances as they relate to aerospace manufacturing requirements.
  • Utilize data, observations, and problem-solving techniques to identify root causes and develop sustainable process improvements.
  • Assist with documenting improved processes, equipment, and standard work.
  • Maintain compliance with Pursuit Aerospace quality systems, safety protocols, and operational standards.
  • Travel to other Pursuit Aerospace facilities may be offered and/or required.

About The Opportunity

As a Lean Manufacturing Engineer Co-op, you will support the development and implementation of continuous improvement initiatives across the facility. This role provides hands-on experience applying Lean Manufacturing and Kaizen principles to improve safety, quality, delivery, productivity, and flow in a fast-paced aerospace manufacturing environment. You will work closely with operators, engineers, leads, quality, EH&S, and the Kaizen Promotion Office (KPO) team to identify opportunities, develop solutions, and implement practical improvements on the shop floor.

This is a highly hands-on engineering role, with significant time spent in the manufacturing environment supporting continuous improvement projects, developing production solutions, and participating in Kaizen and 3S activities.

Required Qualifications
  • Currently enrolled in an accredited university pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S. on a full-time basis without sponsorship now or in the future. The Company cannot offer employment to visa holders who require employer sponsorship in the future or cannot work now on a full-time basis.
  • Must be able to perform work subject to ITAR/EAR regulations.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous co-op, internship, or work experience in a manufacturing, engineering, or continuous improvement environment.
  • Previous experience participating in Lean Manufacturing, Kaizen, Six Sigma, 3S, or other continuous improvement activities.
  • Basic understanding of Lean Manufacturing principles and continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Experience with CAD software and mechanical design.
  • Basic understanding of mechanical components, machine design, tooling, fixtures, or manufacturing equipment.
  • Experience using machining equipment, hand tools, or other manufacturing equipment.Ability to interpret engineering drawings, dimensions, symbols, and geometric tolerances.
  • Familiarity with aerospace component manufacturing processes, including fabrication, machining, laser technology, welding, coatings, and heat treatment.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills with the ability to identify opportunities and develop practical solutions.
  • Self-motivated, resourceful, adaptable, and comfortable working independently as well as in a team environment.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with employees at all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Working Conditions
  • Must be able to have prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to frequently sit, stand and walk.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 15 pounds.
  • Personal protective equipment (e.g., safety glasses and safety shoes) is required on the shop floor
  • Occasional weekend and evening work may be required to accommodate priorities, deadlines, and schedules.
