Job summary

Samuels Seafood Company is seeking an on-site Human Resources Generalist to support a distribution warehouse in South Philadelphia. You’ll drive recruitment, employee relations, performance management, compliance, and maintain HR records in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities include partnering with managers on staffing, onboarding, benefits orientation, payroll support, and ensuring adherence to employment laws across union and non-union teams 24/7.

Qualifications

• 3+ years in an HR role in wholesale/retail or similar sector.
• Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local employment laws.
• Experience with ADP or equivalent HRIS for recruitment, onboarding and payroll.
• 3+ years' experience with union and non-union operations in a 24/7 warehouse.
• HR certification (PHR, SHRM-CP) is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Partner with hiring managers to identify staffing needs.
• Recruit, interview, and hire applicants for open positions (exempt and non-exempt).
• Assist with onboarding: background checks, eligibility verifications, and new hire paperwork.
• Implement new hire orientation and employee recognition programs.
• Process terminations and separations.
• Assist with payroll functions using the company’s HRIS.
• Maintain compliance with employment laws and policies.
• Stay informed on HR trends and regulatory changes.
• Serve as HR hotline contact for employee inquiries.
• Perform other administrative duties as assigned.

What You’ll Do:

Samuels Seafood Co. is seeking a dynamic onsite HR Generalist to provide support for a distribution warehouse. In this role, you will play a crucial part in recruiting and streamlining our HR processes and supporting union and non-union operations teams. Your responsibilities will include recruitment, employee relations, performance management, compliance and maintenance of all HR records. This position is located in South Philadelphia and is fully onsite.

Experience:

• 3+ year's experience in a human resources role, preferably in a wholesale/retail trade or similar industry.
• Strong knowledge of employment laws and regulations.
• Strong working knowledge of ADP or an equivalent HRIS for recruitment, onboarding, timekeeping, performance management, etc.
• 3+ years' experience with union and non-union operations in a 24/7 warehouse environment
• HR certification (e.g., PHR, SHRM-CP) is a plus.

Responsibilities:

• Partner with hiring managers to identify staffing needs, develop job descriptions and hiring strategies.
• Recruits, interviews, and facilitates the hiring of qualified job applicants for open positions (exempt and non-exempt).
• Assists with the onboarding of new hires: conducts or acquires background checks, employee eligibility verifications, and processes new hire paperwork.
• Implements new hire orientation (including benefits overviews) and employee recognition programs.
• Processes terminations and separations.
• Assists with payroll related functions, utilizing the company’s current HRIS system.
• Maintains compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommended best practices; reviews policies and practices to maintain compliance.
• Maintains knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, talent management, and employment law.
• Serves as a point of contact for the HR hotline, answering employee inquiries and escalating complex matters to the appropriate HR team members.
• Performs other administrative tasks and necessary duties as assigned.
