Job summary

Sourcebooks is seeking an HR Generalist to support day-to-day HR operations across our multi-state workforce with a focus on compliance and investigations. You will work with the Sr.

Director of HR on organizational development and compensation reviews, growing a strong generalist foundation within a collaborative, agile team. The role is based at our Naperville, IL headquarters and is hybrid—in-office three days per week.

Qualifications

  • 4–7 years of HR Generalist experience, including employee relations and investigations.
  • Working knowledge of FLSA, FMLA, ADA, EEO, and state leave requirements.
  • Exposure to compensation processes and organizational design.
  • Collaborative, agile team player with strong attention to detail and communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a trusted HR point of contact across the employee lifecycle, including investigations and corrective action.
  • Support compliance across multi-state footprint—handbook review, postings, notices, and leave tracking (FMLA, ADA, state leave).
  • Assist with EEO-1 and other compliance reporting, and monitor employment law changes.
  • Partner with Sr. Director of HR on organizational development, org charts, role structure projects.
  • Support compensation reviews, market benchmarking, and annual compensation and bonus cycles.
  • Maintain HR data integrity in ADP and support compliance, compensation, and headcount reporting.
  • Support recruiting and onboarding, including job description review and new hire coordination.
  • Draft HR correspondence such as promotion letters and policy communications.
  • Participate in HR team meetings, trainings, and projects.

Join Sourcebooks' growing People team as an HR Generalist, supporting day-to-day HR operations across our multi-state workforce with a focus on compliance administration. You'll also partner with our Sr. Director of HR on organizational development and compensation reviews, building your generalist foundation while gaining exposure to the strategic side of HR. This position is based at Sourcebooks' Naperville, IL headquarters, this hybrid role requires in-office presence three days per week and is not eligible for fully remote work.

This is an exempt, salaried position with an annual salary range of $72,000 - $75,000. We determine starting pay based on job-related factors such as geographic location, market conditions, experience, and education --- ensuring fair, competitive compensation for both company and candidate.

What you'll do:
  • Serve as a trusted HR point of contact, providing day-to-day support and guidance across the employee lifecycle, including investigations and corrective action.

  • Assist with EEO-1 and other compliance reporting, and monitor employment law changes affecting policy.
  • Partner with the Sr. Director of HR on organizational development, including org chart maintenance, title standardization, and role structure projects.
  • Support compensation reviews, market benchmarking, and the annual compensation and bonus cycles.
  • Maintain HR data integrity in ADP and support compliance, compensation, and headcount reporting.
  • Support recruiting and onboarding, including job description review and new hire coordination.
  • Draft HR correspondence such as promotion letters and policy communications.
  • Participate in HR team meetings, trainings, and projects as needed.
What you bring:
  • 4--7 years of HR Generalist experience, ideally including employee relations, investigations, or corrective action.
  • Working knowledge of employment law fundamentals (FLSA, FMLA, ADA, EEO, state leave requirements).
  • Exposure to compensation processes, job evaluation, or organizational design.
  • A collaborative, team-first mindset --- you thrive in an agile, fast-moving environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Office 365 (especially Excel); ADP or similar HRIS experience helpful.
  • Adaptable and curious about AI tools, with a willingness to learn and apply them to streamline HR processes and improve efficiency.
  • Bachelor's degree in HR, Business, or a related field preferred, or equivalent experience.
