The Human Resources Generalist oversees the full scope of human resources and safety. The role directs staff in employment, compensation, employee database maintenance, payroll, benefits administration, employee relations, orientation/training/development, and policy/procedure development, while also overseeing the development and monitoring of the HR division budget.
Essential Job Responsibilities
- Manages the talent acquisition process, which may include recruitment, interviewing, and hiring of qualified job applicants; collaborates with departmental managers to understand the skills and competencies required for openings.
- Maintains employee records, ensuring completion and accuracy of details such as employee contact information, job classification, pay rates, organizational structure, and other key details.
- Handles employment‑related inquiries from applicants, employees, and supervisors.
- Performs administrative and record‑keeping tasks related to staffing changes, including time‑off requests, layoffs, resignations, terminations, and extended leaves of absence.
- Processes payroll to ensure timely and accurate payment of salaries, benefits, garnishments, taxes, other deductions, and payroll updates for new hires and terminations.
- Administers employee benefits programs, collecting and submitting employee information and notices of change in status to health, dental, life, disability, and other insurance carriers or brokers.
- Plans and supports company‑wide information meetings such as safety training, open enrollment, new‑hire orientation, and meetings to announce changes in retirement or benefits plans.
- Leads the safety program, enforcing policies and procedures, conducting monthly walk‑throughs, reporting incidents, and training employees to practice safe procedures.
- Administers and manages the performance review process.
- Monitors and ensures the organization’s compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, recommends best practices, and modifies policies as needed.
- Maintains knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in HR, recruiting, and employment law, and applies that knowledge to communicate changes in policy and practice to upper management.
- Conducts or assists with record audits and mandatory reports, including I‑9 audits, discrimination testing, payroll reports, and other compliance reviews.
- Oversees employee disciplinary meetings, terminations, and investigations.
- Assists in developing and training production employees by offering input and solutions related to production issues.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the General Manager.
Supervisory
No direct reports; may provide training and guidance within departments on processes and safety.
Education / Experience
- A minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Human Resources, Business, or Organizational Development.
- Specialized training in employment law, compensation, organizational planning, organizational development, employee relations, safety, training, and preventive labor relations preferred.
- Active affiliation with appropriate human resources networks and organizations and ongoing community involvement, with leadership experience in successful companies and organizations that practice effective HR management.

Work Environment
This job operates in a professional office environment. The employee spends most of the time listening and talking to others, searching for information, communicating with other departments by telephone, e‑mail, or in person. The role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines. Noise level is low to moderate, depending on the project. Occasional travel is required.
Physical Demands
This is largely a sedentary role. The employee is frequently required to lift files, open filing cabinets, bend or stand as necessary, walk, talk, sit, hear, use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee must regularly lift and move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and move up to 40 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
Position Type and Expected Hours of Work
This is a full‑time position with a standard 45‑hour work week. Typical days and hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 5:30 pm.
