Job summary

Harbor Health Services, a mission-driven health provider serving Boston and surrounding areas, seeks an experienced Human Resources Generalist. The role supports designated locations, delivering onboarding, employee relations, and compliance with MA employment law.

Qualifications

BA or BS in Human Resources, Business, or a related field with 2–4 years of HR experience
Or Master’s degree in Business or Human Resources with 2 years of HR experience
Excellent organizational and time management skills
Excellent customer service and communication skills
Strong knowledge of state and federal employment laws
Ability to influence, negotiate and partner with all levels of management
HRIS/ATS experience preferred
Bi-lingual is a plus
Travel to Harbor Health sites as needed

Responsibilities

Oversee onboarding for managers and new hires, including salary placement and offer letters
Foster positive employee relations and conduct investigations with proper documentation
Manage accommodations through interactive process and advise managers on performance issues
Process HR transactions (promotions, reclassifications) and maintain personnel files
Prepare salary evaluations and support monthly orientation sessions
Ensure compliance with federal and state regulations and company policies
Interact with employees and managers to ensure consistent policy interpretation
Assist in policy development and audits as needed

Role:

The Human Resources Generalist will be responsible for performing Human Resources related duties on a professional level and will work closely with the Manager of Human Resources in supporting designated locations. The ideal candidate will be an excellent communicator (written and verbal) with extensive onboarding and employee relations experience (Engagement, Progressive Discipline, Performance Management and Performance Improvement Plans) and up to date knowledge of MAemployment law. Our ideal candidate will also be resourceful, self-motivated, flexible and adaptable, and proficient in time management. The ability to innovate and learn quickly will be pivotal to success in this role.

This position is based out of our corporate office in Mattapan, MAand will behybrid (both in office and remote work).The necessity to be in the office will fluctuate according to tenure, successful completion of onboarding and training, and business needs. Candidates must reside in Massachusetts and live within a commutable distance to our Boston area locations.

Responsibilities:

Ensures that the on-boarding process for both managers and new hires is timely and seamless; assesses and determines salary placement on established scales; creates and issues offer letters; processes requisite employment documents.
Proactively maximizes positive employee relations by building successful relationships with employees and partnerships with managers; manages employee relations issues and conducts fair and thorough investigations, ensures proper documentation of employee statements, recommends appropriate resolutions in accordance with laws, regulations, and/or policies, and composes accurate, timely, and clear communications regarding the outcome.
Implements and manages the interactive process for accommodations.
Counsels managers on employee performance issues and responds to employee needs.
Processes employment-related transactions including promotions, reclassifications, etc.; maintains personnel files both manually and via HRIS.
Creates & interprets salary evaluations.
In conjunction with other assigned staff, implements and attends monthly orientation program.
Ensures compliance with all federal and state regulations including required reporting.
Consults with employees and managers by providing feedback, recommendations and information to ensure consistent interpretation of HHSI policies and procedures and federal and state legislation.
Participates in the development of policies and procedures.
Prepares for and participates in regulatory audits; conducts periodic internal audits as needed

Requirements:
