Job description

Summary

Reporting to the Vice President – Human Resources, the Human Resources Director is responsible for the complete scope of strategic and hands-on HR related duties in the following functional areas for Washington Penn, Audia Elastomers, Uniform Color, and Southern Polymer (US locations), covering over 900 employees: interviewing, onboarding, retention, engagement, performance management, policy implementation, unions, employment law compliance, and employee relations. This person sits on Steering Committees as a senior leader working closely on business initiatives with each company's President. The direct reports of the role include HR Generalists and HR Managers at our US manufacturing locations.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Contributes to long and short term business strategies as a member of Washington Penn, Audia Elastomers, Uniform Color, and Southern Polymer senior leadership teams.
  • Supervises HR Generalists and HR Managers; Mentors all facets of their growth, development and performance, including setting objectives and goals.
  • Manages all day to day human resources activities for Elastomers, Southern Polymer, and corporate staff (~175 employees).
  • Develops human resources plans and strategies for each company.
  • Interviews managerial and technical positions with a focus on strengthening the leadership capability of the companies.
  • Ensures a focus on employee satisfaction and retention and builds a plan to focus on key areas of improvement.
  • Manages succession planning program and high potentials.
  • Directs change management initiatives by successfully counseling managers on organizational development improvements.
  • Negotiates union contracts and handles escalated grievances.
  • Builds and maintains positive relationships with employees to help solve issues.
  • Designs and implements effective methods to educate, enhance, and recognize performance.
  • Manages HR policies and procedures.
  • Collaborates with Global Director of Employee Health & Safety to facilitate and implement policies, procedures, and processes.
  • Collaborates with the Talent Acquisition Director to develop staffing strategies and ensure each location is staffed appropriately for business needs.
  • Collaborates with the Training and Development Manager to prepare an annual training plan for each company and locations. Facilitates training as necessary.
  • Collaborates with Director of Benefits and Compensation regarding employee issues regarding payroll, benefits, or compensation.
  • Manages headcount statistics to budget.
  • Handles escalated issues regarding employee relations and investigations.
  • Provides data and metrics related to turnover, engagement, and progress towards objectives.
  • Maintains compliance with federal and state regulations concerning employment.
  • Performs other related duties as required and assigned.
Recommended Qualifications

  • Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources or related field.
  • Minimum of 15 years of experience in Human Resources.
  • Minimum of 10 years in a leadership role, supervising HR professionals.
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Union and contract negotiation experience preferred.
  • PHR/SPHR and/or SHRM-CP/SHRM-SCP certification preferred.
  • Extensive knowledge of employment laws, regulations, and compliance.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills required.
  • Keen focus on delivering results utilizing business acumen skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality at all times and handle difficult conversations and situations.
  • Able to travel approximately 15%.
