A well-established national organization is seeking an experienced Director of Human Resources to lead HR strategy and operations for its West Coast region.
Based in the Tacoma, WA corporate office, this highly visible leadership position will partner closely with senior executives and operational leadership while overseeing HR support across Washington, California, and additional Western markets.
The Director of HR will lead and further develop the West Coast HR function, providing both strategic leadership and hands‑on HR expertise across employee relations, employment law and compliance, performance management, talent strategy, organizational development, workforce planning, benefits, policy development, and change management.
This role is ideal for an established HR leader who understands the complexities of supporting a geographically dispersed, multi‑state workforce and can successfully balance strategic initiatives with the day‑to‑day needs of the business.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as a strategic HR partner to executive and operational leadership across the West Coast organization.
- Lead HR strategy and day‑to‑day HR operations supporting a multi‑state, multi‑site workforce.
- Provide expert guidance regarding California and Washington employment law, regulatory compliance, policies, and employee relations.
- Lead complex employee relations matters, investigations, performance management, corrective action, accommodations, and organizational changes.
- Develop and implement HR policies, programs, processes, and best practices that can scale with the organization.
- Partner with leadership on workforce planning, organizational design, succession planning, retention, and talent strategy.
- Strengthen performance management and leadership accountability across the organization.
- Coach and advise managers and senior leaders on employee and organizational matters.
- Support compensation, benefits, employee engagement, culture, and talent acquisition initiatives.
- Lead, mentor, and further develop the existing West Coast HR team.
- Partner cross‑functionally with corporate and field leadership to ensure HR initiatives align with operational and business objectives.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of progressive Human Resources experience with demonstrated HR leadership responsibility.
- Current or recent experience operating at the HR Director, Senior HR Manager, HR Business Partner leadership, or comparable level.
- Strong working knowledge of California and Washington employment laws is required.
- Demonstrated experience supporting employees and operations across multiple states and locations.
- Strong background in employee relations, compliance, investigations, performance management, policy development, and organizational change.
- Proven ability to partner effectively with senior and executive leadership.
- Experience leading, developing, and mentoring HR professionals.
- Ability to operate strategically while remaining comfortable with hands‑on HR leadership.
- Excellent judgment, communication, discretion, and executive presence.
- Property Management, Hospitality, or another service‑oriented/multi‑site industry is strongly preferred.
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field preferred.
- SHRM-CP/SCP, PHR/SPHR, or comparable HR certification is a plus.
- Strong proficiency with HRIS/HCM platforms and modern HR technology.
- Experience leveraging HR systems for employee data, reporting, benefits administration, performance management, onboarding, compliance, and workforce analytics.
- Experience with UKG or comparable enterprise HRIS/HCM platforms is highly preferred.
