About the Opportunity
A rapidly growing private equity firm in West Los Angeles is seeking an experienced Director of Human Resources to lead and further develop its HR function. With approximately 40 employees and continued growth ahead, the firm is looking for a sophisticated, hands-on HR leader who can serve as a trusted partner to senior leadership while overseeing the day-to-day people needs of the organization.
This is a highly visible position requiring strong business acumen, exceptional judgment, and the ability to operate effectively within a fast-paced, high-performance investment environment. The ideal candidate will come directly from financial services, with private equity experience strongly preferred, and will demonstrate meaningful stability and longevity throughout their career.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as a strategic HR partner and trusted advisor to senior leadership across all people-related matters.
- Lead the HR function for a growing organization of approximately 40 employees, balancing strategic initiatives with hands‑on execution.
- Oversee the full employee lifecycle, including recruiting, onboarding, employee relations, performance management, professional development, retention, and offboarding.
- Partner with leadership on organizational planning, headcount growth, succession planning, and talent strategy.
- Manage complex and sensitive employee relations matters with discretion, sound judgment, and professionalism.
- Lead annual performance review, compensation, and bonus processes in partnership with senior leadership.
- Oversee benefits, policies, HR systems, compliance, and employee documentation.
- Ensure compliance with California and federal employment laws and maintain best‑in‑class HR practices.
- Evaluate existing HR processes and infrastructure and implement scalable solutions to support continued growth.
- Help preserve and strengthen the firm's high-performance culture while enhancing employee engagement and the overall employee experience.
- Partner with external vendors, benefits providers, recruiters, and other professional resources as needed.
- Travel up to 30% based on business needs.
Qualifications
- 10+ years of progressive Human Resources experience with significant experience in an HR leadership role.
- Financial services experience is required; private equity experience is strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated career stability and longevity within previous organizations is essential.
- Experience supporting sophisticated, high-performing professionals and partnering directly with senior executives.
- Strong knowledge of California employment law, employee relations, compensation, benefits, performance management, and talent development.
- Experience helping scale a growing organization and developing HR processes and infrastructure.
- Highly polished with excellent communication skills, emotional intelligence, and executive presence.
- Comfortable being both strategic and extremely hands‑on in a lean organization.
- Exceptional discretion when handling sensitive employee and business information.
- Ability and willingness to travel up to 30%.
- Must be comfortable working onsite in West Los Angeles.
Compensation
$175,000-$225,000 base salary + bonus, along with an exceptional benefits package.
