Job summary

Responsibilities

  • Oversee recruitment, interviewing, hiring, onboarding, and orientation processes for hospital employees.
  • Partner with hospital leadership to identify staffing needs, vacancies, and recruitment priorities.
  • Monitor staffing levels and develop strategies to address critical vacancies and improve retention.
  • Oversee employee relations including complaints, investigations, disciplinary actions, and performance improvement plans.
  • Provide guidance to managers regarding performance, attendance, and company policies.
  • Ensure accurate processing and oversight of employee time and attendance.
  • Coordinate benefits administration and assist with enrollment processes.
  • Maintain complete personnel files and employment documentation.
  • Coordinate new-hire orientation, required training, and ongoing employee development.
  • Monitor compliance with required education, licenses, certifications, and other requirements.

Join Freedom Behavioral Lake Charles as Our Human Resources Director!


Freedom Behavioral Lake Charles is a growing acute psychiatric hospital providing high-quality behavioral healthcare to adolescent and geriatric patients. As we continue expanding toward a 46-bed facility, we are seeking an experienced and motivated Human Resources Director to join our leadership team and support the continued growth of our hospital.


The Human Resources Director is a key member of the hospital leadership team and is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day Human Resources functions of the facility. This position works closely with theHospital Administrator, Director of Nursing, department leaders, and Corporate Human Resources to support staffing, employee relations, recruitment, retention, performance management, regulatory compliance, and employee development.


POSITION SUMMARY

The
Human Resources Director provides leadership and oversight for all Human Resources operations at Freedom Behavioral Lake Charles. This position is responsible for ensuring HR practices support the operational and staffing needs of the hospital while maintaining compliance with company policies and applicable federal, state, and regulatory requirements.


Key responsibilities include:



  • Oversee the recruitment, interviewing, hiring, onboarding, and orientation processes for hospital employees.

  • Partner with hospital leadership to identify staffing needs, vacancies, and recruitment priorities.

  • Monitor staffing levels and actively develop strategies to address critical vacancies and improve employee retention.

  • Oversee employee relations matters, including complaints, workplace concerns, investigations, corrective actions, and performance improvement plans.

  • Provide guidance to managers and department leaders regarding employee performance, attendance, disciplinary actions, and company policies.

  • Ensure accurate and timely processing and oversight of employee time and attendance.

  • Coordinate employee benefits administration and assist employees with benefit-related questions and enrollment processes.

  • Maintain accurate and complete personnel files and ensure required employment documentation is completed and maintained.

  • Coordinate new-hire orientation, required training, competencies, and ongoing employee development activities.

  • Monitor employee compliance with required education, evaluations, licenses, certifications, and other employment requirements.

  • Support leadership in addressing attendance, turnover, staffing, and employee engagement concerns.

  • Conduct and review exit interviews and identify trends or opportunities to improve employee retention.

  • Assist with unemployment claims, workers' compensation matters, leaves of absence, and other employment-related processes.

  • Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local employment laws, including FMLA, ADA, EEO, Title VII, wage and hour requirements, and other applicable regulations.

  • Participate in hospital performance improvement, Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI), and regulatory readiness activities.

  • Maintain confidentiality of employee, patient, and organizational information.

  • Serve as an accessible HR resource for employees while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries and supporting hospital leadership.

  • Partner with Corporate Human Resources to ensure consistent application of company policies, procedures, and HR standards.

  • Provide regular reporting and updates regarding staffing, turnover, recruitment, employee relations, and other key HR metrics.


PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCE

Education: Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, or a related field preferred.


Experience: Previous Human Resources leadership experience in a hospital, behavioral health, psychiatric, or other healthcare setting is strongly preferred. Candidates should have approximately 3-5 years of progressive Human Resources experience, including experience with employee relations, recruitment, performance management, compliance, and HR operations.


Licensure/Certification: None required.

  • Ability to work collaboratively with hospital and corporate leadership

  • Healthcare or behavioral health experience strongly preferred

  • Ability to maintain a visible and engaged presence throughout the hospital
