Job description

Our client is a rapidly growing manufacturing business with a current turnover of $50 million. Having experienced significant growth in recent years, the company is now entering an exponential expansion phase. They are seeking a strategic and hands‑on Human Resources Director to build and lead the HR function, ensuring the organization has the people, processes, and culture in place to support continued success.

The Opportunity: This is a pivotal role for a seasoned HR leader who can operate across all areas of human resources in a fast‑growing manufacturing environment. The HR Director will work closely with the CEO and senior leadership to assess workforce needs, implement scalable HR processes, and attract, retain, and develop top talent. The ideal candidate will have experience in both unionized environments and Automatic Data Processing (ADP), with a track record of building HR systems that support business growth.

Initially, this role will manage one HR team member, but as the business grows, the HR team is expected to expand, providing the HR Director the opportunity to build and lead a broader team.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead and oversee all HR functions, including talent acquisition, employee relations, performance management, compensation and benefits, compliance, and organizational development.
  • Design and implement HR mechanisms to enable scalable growth, including workforce planning, role definition, and recruitment processes.
  • Partner with hiring managers and senior leadership to identify people requirements across the business, define ideal candidate profiles, and implement structured recruitment and onboarding processes.
  • Drive individual and business performance reviews, providing actionable insights to guide workforce planning and development.
  • Manage HR in unionized settings, including labor relations, negotiations, and conflict resolution.
  • Establish policies, procedures, and programs to support operational efficiency, employee engagement, and company culture.
  • Advise the CEO on organizational structure, succession planning, talent development, and workforce optimization.
  • Set the foundation for hybrid working models and flexible work arrangements once HR processes and mechanisms are established.
  • Monitor HR metrics and continuously refine processes to support business objectives.
Candidate Profile:
  • 5–10+ years of progressive HR experience in large, complex organizations, ideally within manufacturing or industrial sectors.
  • Experience managing HR in a growing manufacturing business, with a focus on scaling operations and implementing robust HR systems.
  • Strong experience in both unionized workforce environments and Automatic Data Processing (ADP).
  • Proven ability to oversee all areas of HR while partnering effectively with senior leadership.
  • Expertise in workforce planning, talent acquisition, performance management, employee relations, and organizational development.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, leadership, and communication skills, with the ability to influence at all levels of the business.
  • Track record of implementing HR processes that enable growth, operational efficiency, and organizational effectiveness.

This role offers clear progression to VP of HR or CHRO as the business continues its growth trajectory, providing a long‑term, high‑impact leadership opportunity.
