Job summary

University of South Carolina Floyd School of Medicine in Columbia, SC seeks an experienced Human Resources Coordinator to manage hiring, onboarding, and HR processes for approximately 1,700 staff and affiliates.

You will coordinate job postings, performance reviews, and HR actions across FSOM, while ensuring compliance with USC policies and state/federal regulations. This full-time role offers comprehensive benefits and a 37.5-hour workweek.

Qualifications

  • Requires a bachelor’s degree in a job related field and 2 or more years of job related experience.
  • Knowledge of USC HR policies, state HR regulations and applicable federal HR laws/regulations specific to higher education.
  • Experience with cross functional HR program management.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in written form.
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments simultaneously.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office products and HR systems (PeopleSoft/PeopleAdmin).
  • Demonstrated skills in collecting, generating, and presenting HR data.
  • Ethical and compliant business practices.

Responsibilities

  • Manages and coordinates the entire hiring process, recruiting, offers, onboarding tasks, and compliance for FSOM staff and faculty.
  • Coordinates position description updates and posts jobs through HR systems; assists on interview committees.
  • Manages performance review processes and EPMS coordination; backup for Time & Labor and Benefits management.
  • Provides guidance on HR policies, ensures compliance, and acts as liaison with faculty, staff, and HR contacts.
  • Executes HR actions in PeopleSoft/HCM and related systems; supports data accuracy and audit readiness.
  • Performs other duties as assigned, including special HR projects and reporting.

Position Description

Advertised Job Summary

Under general supervision, manages and coordinates a variety of professional duties in the administration of human resources programs for the Floyd School of Medicine Columbia ( FSOM ). Serves and maintains good working relationships with the SOMC Basic Sciences, Florence initiative, Brain Health Network, leased Prisma Health Medical Group-Midlands along with other departments for approximately 700 employees and 1700 including affiliates. This position coordinates and manages all HR-related actions, including hiring, job changes, reappointments, and terminations for staff to include FTE positions, temporary positions, research grant and time-limited positions in the HCM -Peoplesoft and PeopleAdmin systems for various departments of FSOM . Ensures operational accuracy and efficiency initiating and monitoring HR actions.

Manages, plans, and coordinates various human resources-related functions to include: processing position description updates in PeopleAdmin. Submits job postings through PeopleAdmin and assists on interview committees, as needed. This position coordinates all HR-related actions, including hiring, job changes, reappointments, and terminations for faculty and staff. Manages internal performance review process for department staff Conducts follow-up activities to ensure correct updates are processed, approved, and notated in PeopleSoft HCM and special human resources-related projects as assigned. Serves as backup for Time & Labor (T/L & ABS ) and benefits management. Demonstrates commitment to conducting business lawfully and ethically by consistently adhering to compliance policies, procedures, and regulations.

Requires a bachelor’s degree in a job related field and 2 or more years of job related experience, which may be substituted by an equivalent combination of job related certification, training, education, and/or experience.

Evaluate and approve Hiring proposals submitted from FSOM departments before submitting to DHR to provide ensure accuracy and compliance. Assists on interview committees, as needed with departments and providing HR interviewing and recruitment tools.

Processes position description updates (reclassification, ADR , PD changes such as department, supervisor, hours, location updates, etc.) in PeopleAdmin. Coordinate with managers the FSOM Annual review for FTE staff to ensure compliance with DHR . Assignments may vary depending on the volume of hires throughout the year. Serves as a backup for FSOM HR team as needed with hires and position description Actions.

Initiates and approves transactions with HCM -Peoplesoft for HR actions, salary changes, status changes, hours worked, supplements, PFP , and bonus payment. Advises and coordinates with HR department contacts to approve and ensure compliance of these type of transactions through PeopleSoft and/or HCM Peoplesoft. Ensures proper completion, documentation, and maintenance of all related employee files. Serves as a backup and assists FSOM HR team as needed.

Backup for monthly Prisma reports for the Benefits Administrator
