Job summary

The City of Virginia Beach is seeking a Human Resources professional to support centralized HR functions, focusing on staffing and compensation within Workday. You will respond to inquiries, coach leaders, and partner with departments on recruitment and onboarding in a collaborative team.

Ideal candidates hold a bachelor’s in HR with 2 years of related experience (or 6 years equivalent), strong analytical skills, and Workday experience. SHRM certifications are strongly desired.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources or related field and two (2) years of experience, or six (6) years of equivalent experience.
  • Experience with Workday HCM, Recruiting, and Reporting.
  • Strong critical thinking and analytical skills.
  • Preference for municipal or state government HR experience and SHRM certifications.

Responsibilities

  • Research and respond to inquiries regarding HR policies and procedures.
  • Interview and coach/counsel supervisors and employees on staffing policies and practices.
  • Research market data to support policy recommendations.
  • Review Workday transactions for policy compliance.
  • Partner with departments on recruitment, selection, and onboarding.
  • Strategize with departments for future staffing needs.
  • Assist in compensation studies, presentations and leadership decisions.
  • Review classifications and reporting structures to align resources.
  • Facilitate organization-wide training on staffing and compensation.

Apply now to join an organization where you truly make a difference.Job Duties and Preferred Qualifications:Join our collaborative team and become a part of the City of Virginia Beach Human Resources Department's mission in facilitating the recruitment, retention, and development of a sustainable quality workforce.This position is assigned to the Staffing & Compensation Division and offers a remote/hybrid work schedule arrangement.Duties:Research and respond to inquiries regarding policies and procedures and/or human resource actions.Interview and coach/counsel supervisors and employees regarding staffing and compensation policies and practices.Research relative market data to make recommendations in constructing applicable policies and practices.Review transactions, processes and job requisitions submitted through Workday to ensure compliance with applicable policies and federal regulations.Partner with assigned departments on recruitment (including strategies for hard-to-fill positions), selection, and onboarding processes.Strategize with assigned departments when planning for future staffing needs.Assist in the research and preparation of compensation studies, presentations, and recommendations for leadership decision making purposes.Review and recommend appropriate classifications and reporting structures to assist departments in aligning their people resources with customer needs, and to create efficiencies.Review and recommend revisions to policies and processes and facilitate process implementation.Facilitate City-wide training as related to staffing and compensation topics.This classification is a part of a job series which may provide successful candidates with promotional growth opportunities.Ideal candidates will have experience working in a centralized HR department for a large organization with high volume, experience in HR roles requiring critical thinking skills and analysis, and a strong research background. Municipal or State Government HR experience, experience facilitating training, experience with Workday Human Capital Management/Recruitment systems, and professional designation as a SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PSHRA-CP, PSHRA-SCP, or CCP is strongly desired.The City offers a generous benefits package such as health, dental and life insurance, retirement and savings plans.
