Qualifications

This role goes well beyond transactional HR support - the HRBP owns the client relationship, proactively identifies risk, advises on employment law and people strategy, manages employee relations matters, conducts HR audits, and delivers training and guidance that empowers client managers to lead effectively and compliantly.The ideal candidate brings substantive experience in multi-state employment law, wage and hour compliance, FMLA and leave administration, employee relations and investigations, and HR policy development in a PEO or multi-client HR consulting environment. This role operates with significant autonomy and is measured by the quality of client relationships, the strength of compliance outcomes, and the depth of strategic value delivered to each account. Work schedule is remote or hybrid depending on client and business needs.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSClient Relationship Management & Strategic HR ConsultingServe as the primary HR point of contact and strategic advisor for an assigned portfolio of PEO client accounts; build and maintain trusted, consultative relationships with client HR contacts, business owners, and leadership.Proactively assess client HR needs, identify risk areas, and deliver practical, compliant guidance on employee relations, workforce planning, organizational structure, and people management practices.Conduct HR audits for assigned clients; identify gaps in policy, practice, and documentation and develop action plans to remediate risk.Advise clients on the development, revision, and implementation of employee handbooks, HR policies, and standard operating procedures aligned with applicable federal, state, and local employment law.Partner with clients on workforce planning, organizational restructuring, succession planning, benchmarking, and manager effectiveness; serve as a thought partner, not just a transactional resource.Advise on, set up, and administer time off and leave programs, ensuring compliance with applicable federal, state and local regulations.Employee Relations & InvestigationsProvide guidance to client managers on coaching, performance improvement plans, disciplinary actions, and terminations; ensure consistency, documentation, and compliance throughout.Escalate matters involving potential legal exposure, litigation risk, or significant compliance failure to HR Director and partner with General Counsel as appropriate.Multi-State Employment Law & Wage and Hour ComplianceMaintain current working knowledge of federal, state, and local employment law across multiple jurisdictions, with emphasis on wage and hour compliance, leave laws, classification, and pay practices relevant to assigned client locations.Advise clients on FLSA classification, overtime requirements, meal and rest break obligations, pay frequency rules, and state-specific wage and hour requirements.Guide clients through FMLA, ADA, state-mandated leave, PTO administration, and return-to-work processes; coordinate with leave administrators and legal resources as needed.Monitor legislative and regulatory changes that affect client obligations; communicate updates proactively and assist clients in implementing required changes.Payroll-Adjacent HR ComplianceAssist clients in understanding and meeting their employer obligations related to new hire reporting, I-9 compliance, E-Verify, and employment eligibility.Support proper documentation and recordkeeping for employment actions to ensure compliance with applicable retention requirements.Training, Education & Client EmpowermentDesign and deliver HR training for client managers and employees on topics including harassment prevention, performance management, leave administration, wage and hour compliance, and HR best practices.Present via webinar, virtual session, or on-site as needed; tailor content to the client's industry, size, and workforce profile.Identify recurring knowledge gaps across the client portfolio and develop scalable training resources that can be deployed across multiple accounts.Follow company policies and procedures required to comply with applicable data privacy and confidentiality requirements, including but not limited to SOC controls and HIPAA Privacy and Security regulations.Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCEBachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business, or a related field required.5+ years of progressive HR experience with demonstrated expertise in employee relations, multi-state employment law, and HR compliance.Direct experience managing employee relations matters including investigations, disciplinary actions, and terminations.Working knowledge of FMLA, ADA, FLSA, and multi-state wage and hour law.Experience advising managers and business leaders on HR matters in a consulting or client-facing capacity.Experience developing or revising employee handbooks, HR policies, and compliance documentation.Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to present to client leadership and deliver training.PHR/SPHR or SHRM-CP/SHRM-SCP certification require, or active pursuit with timeline to obtain.Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and HRIS platforms; Paycom experience a plus.PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCEExperience in a PEO, HR outsourcing, or multi-client HR consulting environment strongly preferred.Experience supporting clients across multiple states simultaneously.Familiarity with complex-state employment law.Experience conducting HR audits and delivering results to client leadership.
