JOB DESCRIPTION

JOB TITLE: Human Resources Associate

REPORTS TO: HR Generalist

LOCATION : Oxnard MICOP Office

STATUS : Non-exempt

Pay Range: $22 -26/hour

HOURS OF WORK: 40/hours, grant funded for 1 year

ABOUT MIXTECO INDIGENA COMMUNITY ORGANIZING PROJECT

Founded in 2001, Mixteco/Indígena Community Organizing Project (MICOP) supports, organizes and empowers the indigenous migrant communities of California’s Central Coast through improved access to health and community resources, community organizing, language interpretation, education, direct assistance, cultural promotion, and our indigenous-led Radio Indígena community radio station. MICOP offers a fast-paced, multilingual and multicultural work environment dedicated to carrying out our mission.

Summary

The Human Resources Associate provides administrative and operational support across Human Resources functions, including recruitment coordination, personnel records management, HRIS employee data administration, training coordination, employee engagement activities, offboarding administration, employment verifications, employee relations support, employee services, and compliance documentation. The HR Associate helps ensure efficient HR operations, maintains accurate records, supports employee programs, and promotes a positive employee experience while maintaining confidentiality and compliance with applicable employment laws and organizational policies.

Responsibilities
  • Coordinate recruitment activities, including job postings, candidate communications, interview scheduling, background checks, and hiring documentation.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential employee personnel files, I-9 records, and HRIS data.
  • Process approved employee data changes and support records retention, audits, and data integrity efforts.
  • Coordinate employee training programs, compliance training, certifications, and development activities.
  • Support employee engagement initiatives, including recognition programs, wellness activities, employee events, surveys, and culture-building efforts.
  • Coordinate employee offboarding activities, including exit interviews, separation documentation, and return of company property.
  • Process employment verification requests and maintain related records.
  • Prepare turnover and exit interview reports to support retention initiatives.
  • Serve as a point of contact for routine employee inquiries and HR services.
  • Support employee relations administration through documentation, meeting coordination, and follow-up activities while escalating complex issues to the HR Generalist.
  • Provide administrative support for HR programs, communications, meetings, and special projects.
  • Assist with compliance activities, including personnel file audits, labor law postings, policy acknowledgments, training compliance tracking, and audit preparation.
  • Maintain compliance-related records and documentation in accordance with organizational and regulatory requirements.
  • Serve as the designated backup payroll processor during the absence of the HR/Payroll Coordinator.
  • Maintain cross-training on payroll procedures to ensure business continuity and operational support.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Public Administration, or related field required; Bachelor's degree preferred.

Minimum of 2 years of Human Resources or administrative experience preferred.

Required to be bilingual in English and Spanish, Mixteco preferred

Experience with HRIS systems, recruitment administration, and employee record management preferred.

Knowledge of Human Resources principles, practices, and employment regulations.

Strong organizational and time management skills.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Strong customer service and interpersonal skills.

Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and HRIS applications.

Ability to prioritize multiple assignments and meet deadlines.

Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
