Bard College seeks a full-time Human Resources Assistant to support a busy HR office in Annandale-on-Hudson, NY. The role focuses on front desk duties, file maintenance, onboarding support, and confidential inquiries while contributing to a welcoming workplace.

Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree required; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Two years’ experience in an HR office.
  • Proficiency with Google Suite and MS Office; ability to learn new platforms.
  • Ability to use discretion with confidential matters.
  • Strong written and verbal communication and attention to detail.
  • Strong customer service skills and welcoming environment commitment.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor HR email account and answer phone calls in a professional manner.
  • Greet all visitors and direct them to the appropriate staff member.
  • Maintain and update employee files and online directory.
  • Track signed appointment letters and manage new hire paperwork, including E-verify, NY New Hire and I-9s, Welcome Letters, Direct Deposits and Emergency Contacts.
  • Track completion of online trainings.
  • Act as gatekeeper for office, using discretion to refer matters to appropriate staff.
  • Maintain record retention/destruction log and transition list.
  • Employment verifications.
  • Background checks.
  • Assist Benefit Manager as needed.
  • Manage job postings and website maintenance.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Bard College, a liberal arts college on the Hudson River, is a private institution working in the public interest.

Bard College seeks a full-time Human Resources Assistant fora busy HR office. Duties include but are not limited to: answeringphones, greeting walk-ins, answering general HR questions,maintaining employee files, assisting with new hires, and providinggeneral office support for the HR department.

This is a full‑time, non‑exempt, 12 month per year positionreporting to the Director of Human Resources. The successfulcandidate will excel at working in a community that is broadlydiverse with regard to race, ethnicity, socioeconomic status,gender, nationality, sexual orientation and religion.

About Bard:

Bard College’s main campus is in Annandale-on-Hudson, N.Y., with1,900 undergraduate students; the College also includes multiplegraduate programs. The 1,000-acre campus sits along the HudsonRiver and offers the Fisher Performing Arts Center, and HesselMuseum of Art, and is the home of the Bard Prison Initiative, thelargest college-degree-granting prison education program in theU.S. The Bard Network also includes several Bard High School EarlyColleges across the country as well as international campuses andpartnerships. Essential Duties:

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Associate’s degree required, Bachelor degree preferred
  • Two years’ experience in an HR office setting
  • Proficiency with Google Suite and MS Office; ability to learnnew platforms and software
  • Ability to use discretion with confidential matters
  • Strong computer and organizational skills
  • Ability to multitask and remain focused throughinterruptions
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and attention todetail are essential
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Demonstrated commitment to providing a welcoming environmentfor all employees
Compensation:

$27/hour

This salary range reflects the College's good faith and reasonable estimate of the compensation for the position at the time of the job posting. Salary decisions are dependent on several factorsincluding but not limited to market and organizational considerations, experience, and qualifications of a selected candidate as well as internal and external equity.
