Job summary

The Alaska Department of Fish and Game, Division of Administrative Services, is recruiting for three Human Resource Technician 2 positions located in Juneau, Alaska. You will join the HR team to provide payroll information, support and assistance to managers and employees.

Under supervision you’ll ensure timely processing, certification, review and audit of payroll, leave and personnel actions, in accordance with Personnel Rules and bargaining unit provisions, helping keep DFG running smoothly.

Qualifications

  • Six months of entry technical level experience in human resource work equivalent to a Human Resource Technician 1 with the State of Alaska or the equivalent elsewhere.
  • Graduation from high school or the equivalent and one year of advanced clerical experience.
  • One year of postsecondary education (32 semester hours or 48 quarter hours from an accredited college or university equals one year) in any field.

Responsibilities

  • Process payroll, leave and personnel actions accurately and timely.
  • Provide technical information, support and assistance to managers and employees on HR/payroll matters.
  • Ensure compliance with Personnel Rules, bargaining unit provisions, and applicable statutes.

The Alaska Department of Fish and Game, Division of Administrative Services is recruiting

for three (3) Human Resource Technician 2's located in Juneau, Alaska!

What you will be doing:

Join the Department of Fish & Game (DFG) Human Resource team to provide technical information, support and assistance to DFG managers and employees. The DFG HR team is a collaborative work environment, that strives to build positive working relationships with our unique workforce. In this position, you’ll gain hands‑on experience in human resource functions, building both knowledge and practical skills in Payroll.

Under the general supervision of our Payroll Supervisor, this position is responsible for the timely and accurate processing, certification, review and audit of all payroll, leave and personnel actions in accordance with applicable Personnel Rules, bargaining unit provisions, and statutes. Your work will help keep DFG running smoothly and ensure our employees are supported and paid timely.

Minimum Qualifications

Six months of entry technical level experience in human resource work equivalent to a Human Resource Technician 1 with the State of Alaska or the equivalent elsewhere.

Special Note

High school graduation "equivalent" means one of the following: 1) a G.E.D (i.e. passing the General Educational Development test).; 2) completion of any basic adult education course of 480 class hours (16 weeks at 30 hours per week); 3) six months of work experience performing duties related to office or clerical support; 4) twelve months of work experience involving some routine tasks related to office or clerical support; 5) highest grade of school completed plus any kind of work experience that totals 12 years or more; or 6) acceptance for admission in full standing by an accredited college or university.

"Human resource" work includes experience in recruitment and selection, classification, employee training, employer provided benefits programs, employment law compliance, personnel, payroll, or employee or labor relations.

SPECIAL NOTE

:

The State of Alaska is realigning payroll services by decentralizing payroll functions for seven (7) departments, including the Department of Fish and Game. The incumbent of this position will be initially appointed in the Department of Administration, Division of Finance and may initially be physically located within the Department of Administration. The position will transfer effective July 1, 2026.
