Position Summary

The Bug Company is seeking an experienced, hands‑on HR Generalist to oversee and support the full employee lifecycle across our multi‑state operations. This position will serve as a key resource for employees and leadership while ensuring HR practices are consistent, compliant, responsive, and aligned with the needs of the business.

The HR Generalist will manage a broad range of human resources responsibilities, including recruiting and onboarding, employee relations, payroll, benefits administration, workers’ compensation, OSHA compliance, performance counseling, employee engagement, and employee separations.

This is an ideal role for an HR professional who enjoys being involved in day‑to‑day operations, building relationships with employees and managers, solving problems, and creating practical HR processes that support a growing organization.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Employee Lifecycle Management

Oversee the full employee lifecycle from recruitment and onboarding through development, retention, and separation.

Coordinate recruiting, interviewing, hiring, offer letters, pre‑employment requirements, and new‑hire onboarding.

Maintain accurate employee records and required employment documentation.

Manage employee status changes, promotions, transfers, compensation changes, and other personnel actions.

Conduct and coordinate employee offboarding and separation processes.

Ensure consistent HR practices across multiple states while accounting for applicable state and local employment requirements.

Employee Relations & Performance Management

Serve as a primary HR resource for employees and managers regarding workplace concerns, policies, performance, and employee relations matters.

Coach managers on effective employee communication, documentation, performance management, and corrective action.

Manage employee counseling, written warnings, performance improvement plans, and other disciplinary processes.

Conduct or coordinate workplace investigations when necessary.

Partner with leadership on employee separations to ensure decisions are properly documented and handled consistently and professionally.

Help identify and resolve workplace issues before they negatively impact employees or operations.

Payroll & Benefits Administration

Coordinate and administer payroll processes to ensure employees are paid accurately and on time.

Review payroll information, employee changes, deductions, timekeeping information, and other payroll‑related documentation.

Serve as a resource for employees regarding payroll questions and discrepancies.

Administer employee benefit programs, including enrollments, qualifying life events, changes, and terminations.

Coordinate with benefit providers, payroll vendors, brokers, and other external partners.

Support annual benefits enrollment and employee benefits communication.

Workers’ Compensation & Workplace Safety

Manage workers’ compensation claims from initial reporting through claim resolution and return‑to‑work coordination.

Maintain required injury and incident documentation.

Partner with employees, supervisors, insurance carriers, medical providers, and leadership regarding workplace injuries.

Coordinate light‑duty and return‑to‑work programs when appropriate.

Identify trends in workplace injuries and recommend corrective or preventative actions.

OSHA & Compliance

Support company compliance with applicable OSHA requirements and workplace safety standards.

Maintain OSHA logs and required injury and illness records.

Assist with OSHA reporting, recordkeeping, inspections, and documentation.

Work with operational leadership to promote a strong culture of workplace safety.

Maintain awareness of federal, state, and local employment regulations affecting company operations.

Assist with development, implementation, and administration of HR policies and procedures.

Help ensure required workplace notices, records, training, and documentation remain current.

Employee Engagement & Culture

Develop initiatives that strengthen employee engagement, communication, recognition, and retention.

Partner with leadership to identify opportunities to improve the employee experience.

Support employee recognition programs, company events, surveys, and engagement activities.

Encourage open communication between employees, supervisors, and leadership.

Help foster a workplace culture centered on accountability, teamwork, respect, safety, and performance.

Multi-State HR Administration

Provide HR support for employees and managers operating in multiple states.

Monitor differences in state and local employment requirements, including wage and hour, leave, final pay, workers’ compensation, and other employment practices.

Help ensure policies and procedures are consistently implemented while accommodating jurisdiction‑specific requirements.

Maintain organized and confidential employee records in accordance with company policies and applicable regulations.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Management, or a related field preferred; equivalent HR experience may be considered.

3+ years of progressive Human Resources experience preferred.

Experience supporting the full employee lifecycle in a hands‑on HR Generalist capacity.

Experience with multi‑state HR operations strongly preferred.

Working knowledge of federal and state employment laws and HR compliance requirements.

Experience with payroll and benefits administration.

Experience managing workers’ compensation claims and OSHA recordkeeping.

Demonstrated experience handling employee relations, performance counseling, corrective action, investigations, and separations.

Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.

Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Ability to handle confidential and sensitive employee information with professionalism and discretion.

Comfortable working directly with employees at all levels of an organization.

Proficiency with HRIS, payroll, timekeeping, and Microsoft Office applications.

SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, or SPHR certification is a plus but not required.

Work Arrangement

This position isbased in Minnesota and is primarily an on‑site roledue to the level of interaction required with employees, managers, and company operations. The Bug Company is willing to consider ahybrid work arrangementfor the right candidate based on experience, business needs, and demonstrated ability to effectively support employees and operations.
