The Kentucky Department of Education (KDE) is a service agency of the Commonwealth of Kentucky, and part of theEducation and Labor Cabinet. The department provides resources and guidance to Kentucky’s public schools anddistricts as they implement the state’s P-12 education requirements. The department also serves as the stateliaison for federal education requirements and funding opportunities.
The department is led by an appointed commissioner of education, who is hired by and answers to the 11-memberKentucky Board of Education. Offices are administered by associate commissioners, and divisions within thoseoffices are administered by division directors.
The department employs approximately 425 Frankfort-based workers; 175 employees in support of the KentuckySchool for the Blind (Jefferson County) and Kentucky School for the Deaf (Boyle County); and about 518employees at the 50 Area Technology Centers across the state.

EDUCATION:
Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree.
EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS:
Three years of professional experience in Kentucky state government merit system human resource administration or Kentuckygovernmental employee benefits administration.

Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION:
Administrative, business, research, and/or clerical experience will substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis.Current or prior military experience will substitute for the required college on a year-for-year basis.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.):
Must provide documentation of successful completion of the Personnel Cabinet's Human Resources (HR) Academy to theagency's appointing authority within 12 months of employment in a position assigned this job classification.
