JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The Penn State College of Medicine, Department of Psychiatry Research, in Hershey, PA, is seeking a Human Research Technologist (Sleep Research Assistant) to support various sleep research projects. The candidate will assist in developing project-specific sleep data management documentation and collaborate with project coordinators, statisticians, clinical investigators, and other personnel to plan and implement data management tasks.

Work Hours: First and second shifts as required by the sleep study schedule, including some weekends. Typical hours are 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. or 2 p.m. - 10 p.m.

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Participating in observational cohort studies, experimental studies, and clinical trials involving behavioral therapy.
  • Recruiting and scheduling subjects/participants for lab visits.
  • Maintaining subject/participant databases and obtaining informed consent.
  • Organizing lab materials, conducting data collection using questionnaires and interviews, and monitoring data accuracy.
  • Troubleshooting technical issues and maintaining protocol integrity.
  • Monitoring safety and confidentiality of the project and participants.
  • Coding and scoring observational data.
  • Ensuring accurate data entry and reconciliation per PI guidelines.
  • Learning and performing actigraphy, polysomnography (PSG), 12-lead EKGs, and performance testing.
  • Training others in data collection, entry, scoring, and interpretation.
  • Preparing reports on data collection and discussing results with team members.

This position typically requires an Associate's degree or higher (Master's preferred) plus 2 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience collecting and analyzing biological samples (saliva, urine, blood) and knowledge of phlebotomy are desirable but not required.

This is a limited-term position funded for one year, with the possibility of renewal.
