Job description

At Jacobs, we're challenging today to reinvent tomorrow by solving the world's most critical problems for thriving cities, resilient environments, mission-critical outcomes, operational advancement, scientific discovery and cutting-edge manufacturing, turning abstract ideas into realities that transform the world for good.

Your impact

We share a common purpose – to make the world more connected and sustainable. And we’re excited about the innovative ways we can change the world. If you are also interested in turning abstract ideas into realities that transform the world for good, then Jacobs is where you belong. We are looking for a passionate and dedicated HSE Training/Medical Coordinator to support Life Sciences North America (LSNA) project portfolio.

As part of our team, in this initial remit you will provide HSE support related to a project in Houston, TX. You’ll serve as a partner working with project and construction management as well as the Project HSE Director to lead HSE excellence, and contribute to and/or develop strategies to win pursuits which ensure no worker injuries or negative impacts to our client’s business continuity. We’ll ask you to support BeyondZero performance that is inclusive of the LOB vision and strategic plans as well as provide overall leadership, management and direction to the team and client assigned.

We’ll rely on you to take personal ownership and responsibility for protecting people from harm and for driving strategies and performance while supporting continuous improvement. You’ll own and maintain open communication with the LOB HSE Director, project and peer LOB HSE team members, and members of our Construction Management teams to provide technical resources guidance, to ensure alignment and to assure consistent implementation of HSE process tools that support LOB HSE strategic plans and objectives.

By establishing these working relationships, you’ll provide visible support and leadership to all clients and LOB stakeholders by providing interpretation, training, technical review and support, regulatory guidance and governance oversight to ensure alignment and consistent implementation of the Jacobs HSE program.

Your primary responsibility will be to schedule Jacobs and Subcontractor Safety Orientations and badging, with the client and controlling EPC contractor along with the scheduling and tracking of random drug screening, initial and follow-up medical appointments for work related injuries and illnesses, and return to work authorizations for both work related and non-work related injuries and illnesses.

Travel is not anticipated with this role.

Project HSE Team Members for Jacobs LSNA LOB require the ability to cater successfully to multiple task masters – support of HSE staff in the field, leadership and vision for Project and Construction Managers and other field staff, a supportive but directive environment to ensure subcontractor success, a leadership style that role models and demonstrates a culture of inclusion and caring for our craft workforce stakeholders, and finally the development of a rapport, partnership, and a communication style which engenders confidence and trust with our client. This requires flexibility, excellent communication skills across a wide cross section of stakeholders, empathy, commitment, and dedication to the delivery of a project approach which ensures workers go home safely every day. While administrative duties associated with a role such as this are many, to role model what’s expected and the delivery of Jacobs BeyondZero culture, the real heavy lifting of this work is in the field where the work takes place and developing relationships with the team members delivering it.

If you’re up for the challenge, we’ve been looking for someone just like you.

Here’s what you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction, Safety, Engineering or other preferred; or equivalent years of experience in lieu of degree
  • A minimum of 3 years of scheduling drug and alcohol testing on construction/client site or field site
  • Advanced medical or nursing certification (Rn, LVN, Paramedic, EMT)
  • OSHA 10 Hour Training (will be provided by Jacobs if not current).
  • Experience coordinating safety training, toolbox talks, and/or similar “outreach” and coaching
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Microsoft Teams, Excel, Outlook and Power Point
Ideally You’ll Have
  • Experience in construction projects
  • Good communication skills and an ability to act in self-directed manner when in familiar “territory”
