Qualifications

  • Significant hands-on experience in electrical transmission, substations or utility construction.
  • Experience working around overhead transmission lines and high‑voltage substations.
  • Ability to train, mentor and assess workforce competency with clear safety messaging.
  • Familiarity with OSHA electrical safety requirements and grounding/PPE concepts.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver electrical safety and technical training to field personnel.
  • Provide classroom-based and hands-on training for substations and transmission projects.
  • Train employees on safe working practices for substations and overhead lines.
  • Support competency assessments and ensure understanding of safety procedures.
  • Deliver training on hazards, PPE, grounding, minimum approach distances, LOTO, etc.
  • Collaborate with operations to identify training needs and improve workforce competency.
  • Develop or update training materials, procedures and instructional content.
  • Support implementation of safety standards across field operations.
  • Mentor employees and provide practical guidance from real-world electrical experience.

Job description

An established electrical infrastructure contractor is looking to appoint an experienced Electrical Safety & Training Specialist to support the development and delivery of training for field personnel working across high-voltage substations and overhead transmission projects.

This position would suit someone with a strong practical background in electrical transmission, substations or utility construction who has developed into a safety, training, mentoring or competency-focused role.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and deliver electrical safety and technical training to field personnel.
  • Provide both classroom-based and practical, hands-on training.
  • Train employees on safe working practices associated with substations and overhead transmission lines.
  • Support competency assessments and ensure personnel understand applicable safety procedures and work practices.
  • Deliver training covering electrical hazards, PPE, grounding, minimum approach distances, lockout/tagout and other critical safety requirements.
  • Work with operational teams to identify training requirements and improve workforce competency.
  • Develop or update training materials, procedures and instructional content.
  • Support the implementation of company and regulatory safety standards across field operations.
  • Mentor employees and provide practical guidance based on real-world electrical construction experience.
Experience Required
  • Significant hands-on experience within electrical transmission, distribution, substations or utility construction.
  • Strong experience working around overhead transmission lines.
  • Practical experience working within or around high-voltage substations.
  • Strong understanding of electrical hazards and safe work practices.
  • Previous experience delivering training, mentoring crews or assessing workforce competency.
  • Ability to communicate technical and safety information clearly to both experienced and developing field personnel.
  • Understanding of relevant OSHA electrical safety requirements, particularly 29 CFR 1910.269.
  • Knowledge of grounding, electrical PPE, minimum approach distances, energized work and lockout/tagout procedures.
Desirable Qualifications
  • NCCER Power Line Worker or instructor experience.
  • NFPA 70E training/certification.
  • OSHA safety qualifications.
  • Experience developing electrical safety or technical training programs.
  • Previous experience as a transmission/substation foreman, general foreman, superintendent, safety professional or technical trainer.
