Job summary

Brown & Root Industrial Services seeks an HSE Tech to perform field observations and ensure safety for employees and contractors at chemical industry sites. The role involves learning units and equipment, enforcing federal, state, and local safety regulations, and assisting with safety training for on-site personnel.

The candidate will identify hazardous conditions, participate in safety audits, and develop corrective actions to eliminate risk while supporting ongoing safety policy compliance.

Qualifications

• Experience in safety programs within chemical industry or similar high-risk environments.
• Ability to interpret and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
• Experience mentoring or training contractors and employees on safety practices.
• Ability to analyze incidents and develop corrective actions to reduce risk.

Responsibilities

• Perform field observations to ensure safety for employees and contractors.
• Walk through job sites, learn units and equipment, and become familiar with operations.
• Ensure contractor compliance with safety laws and site rules.
• Assist in planning and implementing safety training for contractor onboarding.
• Identify hazardous conditions and practices during on-site inspections.
• Participate in safety observation programs and audits, providing corrective feedback.
• Provide guidance on compliance requirements and safety policies.
• Collect and analyze incident data to drive preventive actions.
• Support continuous process improvement while maintaining maximum safety.
• Demonstrate leadership and effective communication up and down the organization.

This position is responsible for field observations, to assure the highest possible degree of safety for employees. The successful candidate will be a self-starter who enjoys the challenges of daily involvement with multiple contractors in the chemical industry.

• Make job walks and get familiar with the units you will be working in. Learn the equipment, etc.
• Ensure that federal, state and local laws, regulations, rules and codes are observed by contractors.
• Assist, with plan to implement move in/out contractor safety training for employee orientation programs.
• Identify and evaluate hazardous conditions and practices in the client’s workplace during on-site inspections to audit physical conditions and safe work practices.
• Participate in the safety observation program, submit feedback and assure documents are begin submitted and tracked accordingly.
• Provide advice and counseling for all compliance regulations.
• Compile, analyze, and interpret incident report data to develop corrective actions to eliminate risk. Assure compliance to company safety policy handbook and site-specific policies.
• Participate in safety walks & audits, provide positive correction advice to employees working at risk.
• Self-starter yet able to take orders as directed.
• Any other duties deemed necessary in alignment with business & departmental needs.
• Possess a high level of technical expertise, ability to apply skills to continuous process improvement while maintaining maximum levels of safety
• Demonstrated leadership skills and abilities
• Excellent communication skills up and down organizational structure
• Strong planning, organizational and follow up skills
• Bilingual is plus
• Excellent people and process management skills
