Job summary

Brown & Root Industrial Services in Houston, TX, seeks an HSE Technician to oversee field safety among contractors in the chemical industry. You will perform job walks, identify hazards, and ensure compliance with federal, state and local regulations.

As a self-starter with strong communication and leadership, you will develop corrective actions, support safety training, and contribute to continuous process improvement while maintaining high safety standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a technical field or equivalent experience.
• Experience implementing safety programs and audits.
• Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.

Responsibilities

• Perform field observations and safe work practices audits.
• Ensure compliance with federal, state and local regulations by contractors.
• Assist with planning and implementing safety training for employees.
• Identify hazards and evaluate conditions to drive corrective actions.
• Contribute to safety walks, audits and incident data analysis.

Job description

This position is responsible for field observations, to assure the highest possible degree of safety for employees. The successful candidate will be a self-starter who enjoys the challenges of daily involvement with multiple contractors in the chemical industry.

• Make job walks and get familiar with the units you will be working in. Learn the equipment, etc.
• Ensure that federal, state and local laws, regulations, rules and codes are observed by contractors.
• Assist, with plan to implement move in/out contractor safety training for employee orientation programs.
• Identify and evaluate hazardous conditions and practices in the client’s workplace during on-site inspections to audit physical conditions and safe work practices.
• Participate in the safety observation program, submit feedback and assure documents are begin submitted and tracked accordingly.
• Provide advice and counseling for all compliance regulations.
• Compile, analyze, and interpret incident report data to develop corrective actions to eliminate risk. Assure compliance to company safety policy handbook and site-specific policies.
• Participate in safety walks & audits, provide positive correction advice to employees working at risk.
• Self-starter yet able to take orders as directed.
• Any other duties deemed necessary in alignment with business & departmental needs.
• Possess a high level of technical expertise, ability to apply skills to continuous process improvement while maintaining maximum levels of safety
• Demonstrated leadership skills and abilities
• Excellent communication skills up and down organizational structure
• Strong planning, organizational and follow up skills
• Bilingual is plus
• Excellent people and process management skills
