Job summary

Norsk Hydro in Yankton, SD is seeking an experienced Health, Safety, and Environment Manager to design and execute comprehensive safety programs, conduct risk assessments, deliver training, and ensure accurate documentation to maintain a safe and compliant plant.

The role reports to the Plant Manager and partners with engineering, operations, and maintenance to meet safety KPIs, uphold OSHA and environmental standards, and drive continuous improvement across the site; occasional travel is

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety Management, Environmental Sciences, or a related field.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in health, safety, and environmental management in an industrial setting.
• Practical knowledge of ISO 18001/ISO 14001, and document control; familiarity with EPA regulations.
• Strong expertise in managing occupational injury cases.
• Experience with Workers' Compensation processes.
• Knowledge of OSHA regulations and critical safety programs (lockout/tagout, fall protection, etc.).
• English required; Spanish is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement plant-wide safety programs and procedures with clear communication.
• Ensure thorough accident investigations and reporting.
• Maintain environmental records, permits, sampling, and regulatory compliance.
• Keep incident management system updated; maintain training logs and plans.
• Identify hazards and contribute to their resolution; conduct risk assessments.
• Perform environmental health and safety inspections and support corrective actions.
• Develop and deliver company-wide training; co-chair JHSC meetings; oversee return-to-work program.
• Perform other duties as required.
