Job Summary:

The Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) Manager is responsible for developing and implementing comprehensive safety programs, policies, and procedures to ensure a safe and compliant workplace. This role involves conducting risk assessments, providing training, and maintaining accurate records to promote a culture of safety and environmental responsibility and maintaining compliance with all federal, state and local environmental and safety regulations. This role is also responsible for managing and deploying Loss Control operations which includes medical, workers compensation and emergency response operations. The HSE Manager will act as the strategic partner, working closely with the team to meet safety KPI’s and ensure strict adherence to safety protocols by both staff and floor employees. The HSE Manager role will report directly to the Plant Manager.

Required Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree in occupational health and safety management or a similar degree.
  • Minimum five (5) years’ experience in HSE management in an industrial / manufacturing environment.
Preferred Skills/Qualifications:
  • Proficiency in computer software, including MS Office, Excel, Word.
  • Experience with Behavioral-Based Safety (BBS) programs, Lean/Continuous Improvement/Six Sigma training/certification, and 5S training/certification is as asset.
  • Knowledge and understanding of health and safety principles and OSHA standards.
Job Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement plant-wide safety programs, policies, and procedures, ensuring clear communication and understanding across all levels of staff. Notify management promptly of any significant safety concerns and collaborate on effective solutions.
  • Responsible for identifying and assisting with correcting any unsafe conditions within the company. Conduct and manage risk assessments as necessary. Fills out ‘Near Miss’ paperwork on any unsafe condition or act.
  • Ensure management conducts thorough accident investigations and prepares accurate reports for serious accidents. Facilitates and conducts accident investigations and cooperates in the preparation of material and evidence for organizational use in hearing, lawsuits and insurance investigations.
  • Drive the safety culture within the organization. Supports and maintains established HYDRO Quality Management System and acts as ISO-14001 representative for Hydro.
  • Keeps managers and employees alerted as to the hazards of working with toxic fumes, dangerous chemicals and other hazardous substances. Monitor all potential pollutants to air, water or ground contaminants.
  • Interact with OSHA/EPA regarding formal complaints and inspections. Manage all HSE activities related to outside governmental agencies and non-government organizations.
