Qualifications

  • 5+ years HSE/Environmental experience.
  • Strong knowledge of health and safety laws, and waste management principles.
  • Ability to travel ~20% and adapt to flexible hours.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and continuously improve site HSE and environmental management systems.
  • Lead ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 implementation and maintenance, including internal audits and CAPA tracking.
  • Oversee regulatory compliance, monitoring, waste and emissions management, and discharge controls.
  • Support client with wastewater and hazardous waste tracking and management.
  • Conduct inspections of facilities, machinery, and safety equipment.
  • Obtain/update HSE plans, permits, and SOPs for new builds and projects.
  • Deliver and coordinate HSE trainings.
  • Coordinate with departments and key participants for program success.
  • Develop and maintain electronic file management for HSE records.
  • Coordinate with disposal company for cradle-to-grave documentation.
  • Conduct assessments to ensure permit compliance.

SMG is seeking a HSE Environmental Coordinator in Aiken, SC. Per diem is avaible for this role.

The HSE Environmental Coordinator is responsible for coordinating the implementation of environmental compliance programs, permit requirements, corporate environmental policies, standards, procedures, and strategic environmental goals within their assigned region, plant, and project scope.This duration for this project is estimated at 2 years.

  • Develop, implement, and continously improve the site HSE and environmental management systems
  • Lead ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 implmentation and maintenance, including internal auditing support and corrective/preventive action tracking
  • Oversee compliance and environmental regulations, monitoring requirements, and management of waste, emissions, and other dicscharg controls
  • Support the client with wastewater and hazardous waste tracking and management
  • Conduct inspections of facilities, machinery, and safety equipment
  • Obtain/update HSE plans, permits, and SOP's for new builds and projects
  • Deliver and coordinate HSE trainings
  • Identify and coordinate with key participants in applicable departments
  • Develop and maintain an electronic file management system
  • Coordinate with the disposal company to ensure proper disposal and “cradle to grave” documentation.
  • Conduct assessments to ensure permit compliance
Requirements
  • 5 plus years of HSE Environmental experience
  • Bachelor's Degree required - EHS, Environmetnal Science, or other related field
  • Strong knowledge of health and safety laws, as well as the chemical composition, structure, and properties of substances, including their uses, interactions, warning signs, production techniques, and disposal methods
  • Excellent ability to use relevant information and individual judgment to evaluate whether events or processes comply with laws, regulations, or standards for protecting the environment and people
  • Strong organizational, planning, and follow‑up skills, with good knowledge of manufacturing and production processes, quality control, costs, and techniques for maximizing effective production
  • Strong analytical ability alongside troubleshooting and problem‑solving skills for highly complex issues, and good ability to interpret blueprints, schematic drawings, layouts, or other visual aids
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with others, complemented by strong oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to travel (approximately 20%), with flexibility regarding working hours.

  • Remaining in a stationary position for a prolonged period
  • Working in extreme weather
  • Being exposed to loud noises
  • Wearing personal protective gear correctly
