Join to apply for the HRIS Manager role at Backblaze

Backblaze is the object storage leader in the open cloud movement, fueling customer success with cloud storage built purposefully to unlock budgets, unburden administrators, and unleash innovators. Together with our partners, we’re helping customers break free from the restrictive, overpriced legacy solutions that hold them back, and blaze forward with the full power of the open cloud in their hands.

Founded in 2007, we scaled the business with less than $3 million in outside funding until 2021, when we did a traditional IPO on the Nasdaq stock exchange. Today, Backblaze generates over $100m in revenue and is the leading specialized storage cloud - managing over three billion gigabytes of data storage for 500K+ customers in 175+ countries, including businesses, developers, IT professionals, and individuals.

But while there is a lot to celebrate in our past, there is almost as much opportunity ahead of us. We are seeking an HRIS Manager!

About The Role

We’re seeking a thoughtful and detail-oriented HRIS Manager to join our People team to lead, optimize, and scale our HR technology and compliance programs. In this role, you’ll serve as the technical owner of our HR systems, ensuring data integrity, seamless integrations, and reporting accuracy across the employee lifecycle. You’ll also partner cross-functionally to uphold the compliance posture of a public company, supporting internal controls, documentation, and annual audits.

You’ll thrive in this role if you love building intelligent systems, enjoy solving puzzles with data, and care deeply about operational excellence and compliance.

What You’ll Do

  • HRIS & Systems Ownership
    • Manage the configuration, maintenance, and continuous improvement of our HR tech stack (currently includes ADP Workforce Now, Greenhouse, PlanSource, Deel, etc.)
    • Serve as subject matter expert and admin for all HR systems, ensuring accurate data flows and smooth integrations with Finance, Payroll, IT, and Legal systems.
    • Lead implementation and rollout of new tools and functionality in collaboration with cross-functional teams.
    • Create, maintain, and improve dashboards and reports that drive business insights across the organization.
    • Manage benefit and carrier data file management.
  • Compliance & Audit Readiness
    • Maintain and monitor documentation and controls related to HR compliance, including SOX, SOC 2, and data privacy regulations (e.g., CCPA, GDPR)
    • Support HR’s responsibilities in quarterly and annual public company audits, partnering with Finance, Security, and Compliance to prepare required reports and evidence.
    • Partner with HR operations team to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws, working with internal and external counsel, as needed
    • Monitor and maintain data integrity and retention practices aligned with company policies and regulatory standards
  • People Data & Process Optimization
    • Support data audits, troubleshoot discrepancies, and maintain high standards of data hygiene across all HR systems
    • Maintain, document and scale processes, workflows, and standard operating procedures (SOPs) for employee lifecycle events
    • Support compensation cycles, performance reviews, and headcount planning through reporting and data analysis
    • Use data to identify trends, uncover anomalies and drive operational improvements across HR programs
    • Collaborate with IT and Security on role-based access controls, systems provisioning, and user management
The Right Fit

  • 5-8 years of experience in HRIS, HR operations, or people analytics roles, ideally within a public company or in a compliance-driven environment
  • Experience with optimizing core HR systems (experience with ADP Workforce Now, Rippling is strongly preferred)
  • A working knowledge of employment regulations, HR compliance programs, and public company audit processes
  • Excellent Excel/Google Sheets skills and experience with people data analysis and reporting
  • High attention to detail, experience with project management, and documentation skills
  • Collaborative working style and a desire to build efficient, people-centered processes and a solutions-oriented attitude
  • Comfortable with change and eager to grow with evolving systems and company needs

Nice To Have

  • Experience supporting SOX or SOC 2 audits
  • Exposure to compensation, equity, or payroll systems and processes

Backblaze Perks

  • Healthcare for family, including dental and vision
  • Competitive compensation and 401K
  • RSU grants for full-time employees
  • ESPP program
  • Flexible vacation policy
  • Maternity & paternity leave
  • MacBook Pro to use for work plus a generous stipend to personalize your workstation
  • Childcare bonus (human children only)
  • Fertility treatment and support
