Job summary

The Maryland School for the Blind seeks an HR Training Specialist to plan, develop, coordinate, administer, and evaluate employee training and professional development programs across the organization. This role conducts organizational training needs assessments and designs initiatives to enhance performance, safety, and continuous learning.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Human Resources, Education, Organizational Development, Training and Development, or related field.
• Minimum of five years of experience in staff development, employee training, professional development, HR, or related field, including classroom-based training.
• General knowledge of HRIS, word processing, spreadsheet, presentation, and database programs.
• Knowledge of adult learning principles, training methodologies, employee development, and professional development practices.
• Experience coordinating multiple training programs, schedules, instructors, certifications, and employee participation.
• Excellent planning, time management, decision-making, presentation, organization, and interpersonal skills.
• Excellent communication skills, both verbally and in writing.
• PHR or SHRM-CP certification preferred.
• Experience in a school, residential, healthcare, human services, or other complex service environment preferred.

Responsibilities

• Plans and coordinates the School's comprehensive employee training and professional development program.
• Conducts organizational training needs assessments, identifies gaps, and develops programs to address needs.
• Develops and maintains an annual training calendar and coordinates schedules, instructors, facilities, materials, and records.
• Evaluates the effectiveness of training programs and recommends improvements.
• Coordinates required student behavioral management and safety programs and tracks certification status.
• Coordinates First Aid/CPR, Safety and driver/transportation safety training; maintains records.
• Monitors workers' compensation, investigates injuries, and identifies corrective actions.
• Coordinates New Employee Orientation and Staff Development initiatives.
• Tracks and maintains licenses/certifications; liaises with licensing agencies.
• Maintains OSHA compliance records and required reporting.
