Position Summary

Reporting to the Executive Director, the HR & Office Manager is responsible for leading the organization’s human resources functions and office administration systems to support a healthy, equitable, and effective workplace.

This position serves as the central coordinator for employee experience, hiring and onboarding, benefits administration, office systems, technology and equipment management, vendor relationships, and organizational compliance. The HR & Office Manager develops and maintains the structures, processes, and resources that enable staff to do their best work while supporting Groundwork Denver’s continued growth.

The successful candidate is a proactive problem solver and systems-builder who values consistency, accountability, and strong relationships. They balance attention to detail with a people-centered approach, serving as a trusted resource for staff while creating efficient and sustainable organizational systems. This role requires sound judgment, strong communication skills, discretion with confidential information, and a commitment to Groundwork Denver’s mission and values.

Responsibilities
Human Resources & Employee Experience (50%)
  • Lead all staff recruitment, hiring, onboarding, and offboarding processes.
  • Manage seasonal youth hiring processes in partnership with program staff.
  • Administer employee benefits, including open enrollment, employee education, vendor coordination, and ongoing benefits support.
  • Maintain personnel records, employment documentation, and HR compliance requirements.
  • Ensure personnel policies, employee handbook materials, and HR practices remain current and compliant with applicable laws and regulations.
  • Partner with leadership on employee relations, workplace concerns, conflict resolution, and performance management processes.
  • Support managers in implementing equitable and consistent hiring and people-management practices.
  • Serve as a confidential, trusted resource for staff.
  • Coordinate employee engagement initiatives, culture-building activities, and staff touchpoints that strengthen connection to Groundwork Denver in partnership with other Groundwork Denver staff.
  • Coordinate workplace training related to organizational systems, policies, and administrative practices.
  • Promote clear communication, consistency, and accountability across organizational processes.
Office Administration & Organizational Systems (30%)
  • Develop, document, and maintain organizational procedures, standard operating procedures, and administrative systems.
  • Build and improve systems that increase organizational efficiency, consistency, accountability, and capacity.
  • Maintain organizational records, certificates of insurance, contracts, licenses, and other administrative compliance requirements.
  • Serve as the primary liaison with insurance brokers and providers for organizational insurance and employee benefits.
Technology, Equipment & Asset Management (20%)
  • Maintain technology, equipment, and supply inventory systems.
  • Coordinate onboarding and offboarding logistics, including equipment, software access, accounts, and workspace setup.
  • Serve as the primary coordinator with IT vendors and technology support providers.
  • Maintain systems for software licenses, account administration, passwords, and technology access.
  • Partner with staff and departments to maintain organizational equipment tracking, coordinate maintenance schedules, and support replacement planning, ensuring shared accountability for the stewardship and management of organizational assets.
Responsibilities as a member of the Groundwork Denver team
  • Participation in Groundwork Denver fundraising events and appeals for marketing and communications (including but not limited to providing content for social media posts (such as programmatic photos, videos, event updates, etc.), interviews for newsletter spotlights, and general storytelling campaign themes) as requested and led by the Development & Communications Director.
  • Participate in volunteer days

  • Attend all staff meetings and other meetings as assigned

Qualifications, education and experience

  • Minimum of 4–6 years of progressively responsible experience in human resources, office management, nonprofit administration, business administration, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated experience managing employee recruitment, hiring, onboarding, benefits administration, and personnel records.
  • Experience supporting employee relations, workplace concerns, performance management processes, and staff engagement initiatives.
  • Knowledge of employment practices, HR compliance requirements, and employee relations best practices.
  • Experience developing, implementing, and maintaining organizational systems, procedures, and administrative processes.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and maintain attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise discretion and maintain confidentiality when handling sensitive personnel and organizational information.
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills, including the ability to navigate difficult conversations with professionalism, empathy, and sound judgment.
  • Experience coordinating vendors, contractors, insurance providers, or external service partners.
  • Experience managing technology, equipment, inventory, or organizational assets.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate clearly, consistently, and professionally with staff, candidates, vendors, and external partners.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, take initiative, and proactively solve problems while collaborating effectively across teams.
  • Commitment to creating equitable, inclusive, and welcoming workplace environments.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, HRIS systems (APS), database platforms, and other workplace technology tools.
Preferred Qualifications
  • HR certification such as SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, or equivalent.
  • Experience working in nonprofit organizations or mission-driven environments.
  • Experience supporting restorative, equity-centered approaches to conflict resolution, employee relations, or workplace culture.
  • Experience administering employee benefits and coordinating with insurance brokers.
  • Experience creating and documenting standard operating procedures, policies, and organizational workflows.
  • Experience coordinating technology vendors, software implementations, or workplace infrastructure projects.
  • Spanish-language proficiency.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements

This position is primarily based at Groundwork Denver’s office and requires regular in-person presence. Occasional remote work flexibility may be available. Responsibilities may include moving supplies and equipment, lifting up to 50 pounds, and supporting office and event setup as needed. Reasonable accommodations will be provided.

Compensation

This is a full-time, salaried and benefitted position with a range of $55,000 - $60,000, depending on experience. Benefits include health and dental insurance, ability to add family members to insurance at own expense, paid health and wellness as well as vacation hours, 12 paid holidays, partial remote work potential, RTD (public transportation) EcoPass, and stellar, passionate colleagues and community.
