As the HR Lead in Reno, you will serve as the primary onsite HR partner for SVM’s Reno operations, supporting employees and leaders across our office, field, and shop teams. You will work closely with the VP of Operations on day‑to‑day regional needs while partnering with the Chief Administrative Officer, who provides overall HR leadership, strategy, standards, and direction across SVM.

This role is responsible for leading HR support locally in Reno while working closely with SVM’s shared services teams, including HR, Payroll, Benefits, Recruiting, Onboarding, Legal, and Safety. The HR Lead will help ensure employees and leaders receive consistent, responsive, and practical HR support while maintaining alignment with company-wide practices and expectations.

What You Will Do
  • Lead the day‑to‑day Human Resources function for the Reno operation, serving as the primary onsite HR partner to the VP of Operations, managers, supervisors, and employees.
  • Partner with the CAO to implement SVM's HR strategy, standards, policies, programs, and standard operating practices within Reno, while providing feedback on regional needs and opportunities for improvement.
  • Serve as the primary HR resource for employee relations matters, including employee concerns, workplace investigations, grievances, performance issues, corrective action, and other sensitive personnel matters; elevate and partner with the CAO and Legal Department as appropriate.
  • Support employees and leaders with day‑to‑day HR needs, including policies, benefits questions, leaves of absence, accommodations, employee changes, performance management, and other employment‑related matters, coordinating with shared services teams as needed.
  • Ensure Reno HR practices comply with applicable Nevada and federal employment laws, regulatory requirements, collective bargaining agreements, and company policies, partnering with the CAO and Legal Department on interpretation and higher‑risk or complex matters.
  • Collaborate with SVM's shared services teams to coordinate the employee lifecycle, including recruiting, onboarding and new hire orientation, benefits, leaves, employee changes, HRIS records, training and policy acknowledgements, performance review tracking, and employee offboarding.
  • Partner with Payroll Specialist regarding timekeeping, employee changes, deductions, and employee questions.
  • Partner closely with the Safety Department on Workers' Compensation and return‑to‑work matters requiring HR coordination, including employee communication, leave and accommodation considerations, documentation, and related employment matters. Safety maintains responsibility for safety operations, incident investigation, and workplace safety programs.
  • Maintain visibility into Reno HR activity, employee records, required documentation, and key HR metrics; identify trends, follow through on open items, and build strong working relationships across Reno operations and shared services to support a consistent employee experience.
Education, Skills & Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Organizational Development, or a related field preferred; equivalent combination of education and relevant experience will be considered.
  • 5-7 years of progressive Human Resources experience, including experience serving as a lead HR resource within a complex operating environment, required.
  • Experience supporting field, shop, construction, manufacturing, service, or other operations‑based employee populations highly preferred.
  • Experience supporting a unionized workforce and interpreting collective bargaining agreements highly preferred.
  • Strong working knowledge of Nevada employment and labor laws and applicable federal requirements, including wage and hour, EEO, ADA, FMLA, ERISA, COBRA, and other employment‑related regulations required.
  • Strong knowledge of employee relations, performance management, workplace investigations, corrective action, leaves of absence, accommodations, benefits administration, employee records, and Workers’ Compensation coordination required.
  • Demonstrated experience advising and supporting managers through employee relations matters, including performance concerns, corrective action, investigations, grievances, and terminations.
  • Ability to work effectively within a shared services model, maintaining ownership of regional HR needs while collaborating closely with HR, Payroll, Legal, Safety, Operations, and other support functions.
  • Sound judgment and the ability to identify and appropriately elevate complex or higher‑risk employment matters, partnering with the CAO and Legal Department as needed.
