Job summary

The City of La Porte is seeking a Human Resources Generalist to provide guidance across recruitment, onboarding, policy interpretation, benefits, and performance management for assigned departments.

Under supervision from the HR Manager, you will support time and attendance, payroll guidance, workers compensation, and employee relations, while collaborating with other HR team members to deliver high-quality service to city staff.

Qualifications

• Three (3) years of experience in a human resources role.
• Associate’s degree or higher in an applicable field.
• Municipal Human Resources experience is strongly desired.
• Professional certification is desired (HRCI, SHRM, PRIMA, etc.)

Responsibilities

• Serve as the primary contact point for HR questions, issues, and projects for assigned departments.
• Recruiting, selection, and hiring - posting jobs, reviewing candidates, coordinating interviews, and guidance.
• Onboarding and orientation – obtaining and verifying data and conducting orientations.
• General policy and program interpretation.
• Time and attendance and payroll guidance.
• Workers' Compensation claims filing and follow-up.
• Performance management and progressive discipline support.
• Assisting employees with separation process (COBRA, TMRS).
• Participation in coordination of employee programs and events.
• Cross-training with other HR team members to maintain high service levels.
