Job summary

Roskam Foods, a Grand Rapids area contract manufacturer, is seeking a Human Resources Clerk/Assistant to support payroll, timekeeping, and HR records within a busy People Operations team. You will assist recruitment, ensure compliance with labor laws, coordinate training, handle routine employee inquiries, and help prepare reports.

A Bachelor’s degree in HR or related field is preferred, with English/Spanish bilingual ability a plus.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in human resources, Business Administration or related field required OR actively pursuing degree.
• Able to interact with employees and be perceived as an approachable and knowledgeable resource
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook
• Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
• Knowledge of HR best practices and labor laws is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Payroll support: complete required preparation tasks to ensure the smooth processing of weekly payroll.
• Timekeeping/Attendance support: complete required tasks within timekeeping and attendance systems.
• HR Record Keeping: Maintain and update employee records, both physical and digital, ensuring accuracy, confidentiality, and compliance with data protection regulations.
• Recruitment Assistance: Assist in the recruitment process by scheduling interviews and coordinating candidate communication.
• Compliance: Ensure that HR practices and procedures adhere to relevant labor laws and regulations. Assist with compliance reporting and audits as requested.
• Training and Development: Help coordinate training programs. Maintain training records and monitor training completion.
• Employee Relations: Handle basic employee inquiries and concerns, escalating more complex issues to the People Operations Manager or Generalist as necessary.
• Documentation and Reporting: Prepare HR-related reports, presentations, and documents as requested by HR management or other departments.
• HR Communication: Assist in the distribution of HR policies, notices, and updates to employees. Promote HR initiatives and events.
• HR Software and Systems: Utilize HR software and systems for data entry, reporting, and record-keeping. Ensure data accuracy and troubleshoot system issues.
