Job summary

SmartStop Self Storage in California is seeking an HR Generalist to partner with the Director of People & Culture and support multiple regions. You’ll handle recruitment, onboarding, compliance, and employee experience.

This role requires a Bachelor's in HR or related field, 3+ years in HR Generalist across multi-site operations, and hands-on California HR experience. You’ll use HRIS/ATS and foster an inclusive culture while driving best practices.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in HR or related field is required.
• 3+ years of HR Generalist experience in a multi-site, multi-state company.
• Hands-on HR experience in California (required).
• ADP Workforce Now & ClearCo are helpful but not required.

Responsibilities

• Own the corporate recruitment process from start to finish, ensuring a positive candidate experience and timely fill of open positions.
• Process all requests for store-level new hires and terminations, including offer letters and background checks.
• Manage leaves of absence and workers' compensation claims within designated districts.
• Serve as the primary HR contact for all field staff within assigned regions.
• Provide guidance and support to Regional and District Managers within their regions.
• Process unemployment and workers' comp claims with appropriate documentation.
• Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations.
• Handle HR-related inquiries from applicants, employees, and managers.
• Serve as a subject matter expert on HR software and platforms used in the company.
• Manage HRIS and ATS, running reports and audits for data accuracy.
• Model the Company’s core values and foster a positive, inclusive work environment.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
