Job summary

Qualifications

  • 3+ years HR generalist experience in a manufacturing or industrial setting.
  • Experience with recruiting, onboarding, HRIS, benefits and documentation.
  • Knowledge of federal/state employment laws and HR best practices.
  • Experience with Paylocity or similar HRIS/payroll system.
  • HR certifications are a plus.

Reports To: Director of Legal / Human Resources
Works Closely With: Plant Manager

Position Summary

The HR Generalist / Office Manager serves as the primary on-site Human Resources contact for the Cleveland facility and is responsible for supporting employees and management throughout the employee lifecycle. This position combines hands‑on HR generalist responsibilities with office administration and facility support.

The successful candidate will be highly organized, approachable, responsive, and comfortable working in a fast‑paced manufacturing environment. This position requires strong follow‑through, sound judgment, confidentiality, and the ability to balance employee support with business and operational needs.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Human Resources
  • Serve as the primary on‑site HR resource for employees and supervisors at the Cleveland facility.
  • Support recruiting activities, including posting open positions, reviewing candidates, coordinating interviews, communicating with applicants, and assisting with offer and pre‑employment processes.
  • Coordinate new‑hire onboarding, orientation, required documentation, employment eligibility verification, badges, system access, and other onboarding activities.
  • Ensure timely and accurate completion of Form I-9 and E-Verify requirements.
  • Maintain employee information and process HR transactions within Paylocity.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential personnel and employment records.
  • Conduct and document new‑hire employee check‑ins, including 7‑day, 30‑day, and 60‑day follow‑ups.
  • Conduct exit interviews and provide meaningful feedback and trends to Corporate HR.
  • Assist employees with routine questions regarding payroll, benefits, policies, attendance, PTO, and other employment matters.
  • Support annual benefits enrollment and employee benefit communications.
  • Monitor attendance and assist supervisors with application of attendance and workplace policies.
  • Assist management with coaching, counseling, corrective action, and performance management documentation in coordination with Corporate HR.
  • Receive employee concerns and elevate significant employee relations, harassment, discrimination, retaliation, safety, wage and hour, or legal matters to the Director of Legal / Human Resources.
  • Support employee investigations as directed.
  • Assist with administration and tracking of FMLA, ADA, PWFA, workers' compensation, and other leaves or accommodations in coordination with Corporate HR.
  • Coordinate employee separations and ensure required termination documentation and system updates are completed.
  • Support employee engagement, retention, recognition, and company culture initiatives.
  • Assist with employee meetings, communications, events, and training..
  • Ensure HR processes and practices are consistently applied in accordance with company policy and applicable federal, state, and local employment laws.
Office Management / Administrative Support
  • Maintain organized electronic and paper filing systems.
  • Coordinate meetings, employee events, training sessions, and other facility activities.
  • Assist plant leadership with administrative projects, reports, communications, scheduling, and documentation.
  • Coordinate with vendors and Corporate departments as necessary.
  • Assist with facility‑related administrative functions and special projects as assigned.
Safety and Compliance Support
  • Support the facility's safety culture and reinforce compliance with company safety requirements.
  • Assist with maintenance of required employee training records and documentation.
  • Partner with plant management and Corporate HSE personnel regarding employee safety matters, incidents, workers' compensation claims, and return‑to‑work activities.
  • Maintain required workplace postings and HR‑related compliance notices.
Qualifications
  • Minimum of 3 years of Human Resources generalist or comparable HR experience preferred.
  • Previous experience in a manufacturing, industrial, distribution, or similar operational environment strongly preferred.
  • Experience with recruiting, onboarding, employee relations, HRIS administration, benefits, and employment documentation.
  • Working knowledge of federal and state employment laws and HR best practices.
  • Experience with Paylocity or a similar HRIS/payroll system preferred.
  • SHRM-CP, PHR, or similar HR certification is a plus.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to establish credibility with employees, supervisors, and management.
  • Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with discretion.
  • Strong organizational and time‑management skills with excellent attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines with limited supervision.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Sound judgment and ability to recognize when an employee matter should be escalated.
  • Comfortable working directly with hourly employees and plant leadership.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and Teams.
  • Ability to learn and effectively use HR, payroll, and business systems.
  • Strong problem‑solving skills and a practical, service‑oriented approach to HR.
Physical and Work Environment Requirements
  • Primarily office‑based within an active manufacturing facility.
  • Regular interaction with employees throughout the plant.
  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, and use standard office equipment for extended periods.
  • Must be able to comply with all required personal protective equipment and safety requirements when entering production areas.
  • Occasional schedule flexibility may be required to support employees working different shifts, facility events, investigations, training, or other business needs.
