North Carolina State University’s Wilson College of Textiles seeks an HR Generalist for HR Data & Operations in Raleigh, NC. You will manage and audit sensitive employee data across HR systems, ensuring accuracy and security while identifying opportunities to improve processes.

Essential Job Duties

The HR Generalist – HR Data & Operations serves as a front-line HR resource responsible for managing and auditing sensitive employee and position data within university HR systems. This role is fundamental to the integrity of college HR operations and records, ensuring the accuracy and security of personnel information while identifying opportunities to improve HR processes and reduce redundancies in workflows.

As a vital member of the Wilson College of Textiles, you will support the only college in North America solely focused on textiles. Our faculty and researchers apply “textiles thinking” to solve the world’s grand challenges, from medical innovation to environmental sustainability. As the HR Generalist – HR Data & Operations, you provide the critical data integrity and operational stability that allow these world-class innovators to focus on their mission of global advancement.

HR Data Management & Onboarding
  • Independently manage and evaluate HR data transactions associated with new hires, job changes, and other employee lifecycle events, ensuring transactions are accurately processed and consistent with university requirements.
  • Administer payroll and leave-related HR processes, including management and tracking of family medical leave and other leave types, and review leave balances and potential overdrawn leave situations to determine appropriate next steps.
  • Manage student hiring and graduate appointment processes, including evaluating eligibility and ensuring appointments are processed in accordance with applicable university requirements.
  • Process summer salary appointments and related additional compensation transactions.
  • Review HR data and documentation to identify discrepancies, determine appropriate next steps within established policies and procedures, and coordinate resolution with central HR or other appropriate resources when necessary.
  • Maintain electronic personnel records and serve as the college’s OnBase data custodian, ensuring records are maintained in accordance with applicable record retention, security, and confidentiality requirements.
  • Manage I-9 and E-Verify processes, including applicable visa documentation, and identify employment eligibility or compliance issues requiring additional review or escalation to University Human Resources.
System Auditing & Compliance
  • Independently review HR workflows, transactions, and compliance requirements to identify errors, inconsistencies, process gaps, and areas of risk or noncompliance, and coordinate appropriate corrective actions.
  • Use HR and business systems to develop, implement, and maintain HR processes and workflow tools that improve efficiency and reduce manual work.
  • Analyze recurring data, compliance, and workflow issues to determine underlying causes and recommend appropriate process or system improvements.
Reporting & Analytics
  • Analyze HR data from multiple internal systems and data sources, including PeopleAdmin, PeopleSoft HR/ FIN / SIS , and other institutional data sources, to identify trends, discrepancies, and operational issues and support college leadership’s evaluation of student hiring trends, ratios to measure performance, salary equity across job families, and other annual reporting needs.
  • Evaluate the reliability and completeness of data sources, determine appropriate methods for compiling information, and develop and produce recurring and ad-hoc reports in response to operational and management needs.
  • Interpret findings and communicate relevant trends, data issues, and recommendations to HR leadership and managers to support operational decision-making.
Support, Guidance &Training
  • Serve as a primary HR resource for managers and team members, providing guidance on HR data, position and employee transactions, HR systems, policies, procedures, and related administrative processes.
  • Assess and resolve moderately complex HR process and system inquiries, identifying appropriate solutions, resolving issues independently, and escalating matters when appropriate.
  • Coordinate HR services and processes with the HR team, college administrative units, and central university service areas, including onboarding, systems access, required training, compliance activities, and candidate interview logistics.
  • Develop or deliver guidance for training and process needs on HR systems and processes, including time and leave management, performance management, and other tools that support effective HR administration.
  • Participate in college committees and initiatives related to employee engagement, recognition, well-being, culture, and college-wide activities.

Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree (or an equivalent combination of education and experience).
Other Required Qualifications
  • Demonstrated ability to provide HR support to multiple managers and employees, including applying established HR processes and procedures, maintaining accurate employee information, and resolving routine HR questions and transactions.
  • Working knowledge of federal and state employment requirements, including FLSA , FMLA , and recruitment and selection practices.
  • Ability to organize, prioritize, and manage multiple HR activities and deadlines while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate HR information clearly and professionally through written and verbal communication.
  • Ability to build effective working relationships with employees, managers, and other stakeholders while handling sensitive matters with discretion.
  • Demonstrated ability to research issues, resolve routine HR questions, and adapt to changing priorities while maintaining timely and accurate service.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 1–2 years of human resources experience providing support to multiple managers in a professional environment.
  • Proficiency with business information systems and data tools such as Excel/Sheets, Power BI, Smartsheet, Monday.com, Trello, or similar platforms.
  • Familiarity with enterprise-level HRIS platforms and HR data management processes.
  • Experience using reporting and data analysis tools to monitor information, identify trends, or support HR decision-making.
  • Emotional intelligence and a positive, composed demeanor, with the ability to understand needs, anticipate priorities, and respond effectively to time-sensitive situations.
  • Demonstrated ability to approach work with professionalism, sound judgment, and a commitment to providing responsive, service-focused support.
