Job summary

Manhattan Charter School seeks a Human Resources Generalist to support recruitment, onboarding, performance management, training, and benefits administration for the NYC campus. The ideal candidate will have 3–5 years of HR experience, strong communication, and knowledge of employment laws.

The on-site, 12-month position requires excellent organizational skills and a commitment to equity and professional development within a fast-paced school environment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of HR experience, with knowledge of HR practices and employment laws.
  • Professional HR certification (e.g., SHRM-CP, PHR) is preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to build relationships at all levels.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and HRIS systems.

Responsibilities

  • Recruitment and Onboarding: manage full-cycle recruitment, post jobs, screen resumes, interview, and hire; coordinate onboarding.
  • Employee Relations: serve as advisor on HR issues, policies, investigations, and conflict resolution.
  • Performance Management: administer reviews and support managers/employees in goal setting and development; support PIP development.
  • Training and Development: identify training needs and coordinate HR-related programs and sessions.
  • Compliance and Policy Administration: ensure compliance with employment laws and update HR policies and handbooks.
  • Benefits Administration: administer health insurance, retirement plans, and other benefits; act as primary contact for benefits inquiries.

The Human Resources Generalist will play a key role in supporting the Manhattan Charter School Network with HR functions, including recruitment, employee relations, performance management, training and development, compliance, and benefits administration. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in HR practices and procedures, excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Recruitment and Onboarding:
    • Manage the full-cycle recruitment process, including job postings, screening resumes, conducting interviews, and making hiring recommendations.
    • Coordinate new employee onboarding and orientation programs to ensure a smooth transition for new hires.
  • Employee Relations:
    • Serve as a trusted advisor to employees and management on HR-related issues, policies, and procedures.
    • Handle employee relations issues with discretion and professionalism, including conducting investigations and resolving conflicts in a timely manner.
  • Performance Management:
    • Administer performance review process and provide guidance and support to managers and employees on goal setting, performance feedback, and professional development opportunities.
    • Assist in the development and implementation of performance improvement plans as needed.
  • Training and Development:
    • Identify training and development needs within the organization and coordinate training programs and initiatives to enhance employee skills and capabilities.
    • Assist in the design and delivery of HR-related training sessions, workshops, and seminars.
  • Compliance and Policy Administration:
    • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations.
    • Maintain and update HR policies, procedures, and employee handbooks to reflect current laws and best practices.
  • Benefits Administration:
    • Administer employee benefits programs, including health insurance, retirement plans, and other employee benefits.
    • Serve as the primary point of contact for employees regarding benefits inquiries and enrollment processes.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of HR experience, with a strong understanding of HR practices and employment laws.
  • Professional HR certification (e.g., SHRM-CP, PHR) is preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build rapport and establish relationships at all levels of the organization.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize and multitask in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and HRIS systems.

  • Salary Rage: $60,000 - $80,000 per year
  • Work Hours: 7:30am - 4:30pm each day, On-site
  • 12-month employee
