Job summary

Community Renewal Team Inc is seeking an HR Generalist I to support onboarding, benefits, training, and compliance agency-wide. Under supervision of the HR Director, you will manage employee records, HRIS maintenance, and payroll tasks.

This full-time day-shift role requires an Associate’s degree and 2–3 years HR experience. You will collaborate with department heads, ensure data integrity, assist with audits, and respond to employee inquiries.

Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree with coursework in Human Resources Management, Business Administration or related field preferred.
  • Two to three years progressively responsible HR administration experience including recruitment, benefits, and employee relations.
  • Knowledge of Federal, state and local laws pertaining to personnel administration and payroll/benefits.
  • Experience with Microsoft applications and HRIS software.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES

Under supervision, and administrative direction of the Human Resources Director, the Human Resources Generalist I will act in a professional capacity to assist in supporting the delivery of Human Resources services agency wide. This position assists with the administration of onboarding, employee benefits, training, and compliance programs. The incumbent is responsible for managing and performing a variety of human resources duties, including the administration and maintenance of employment-related records and personnel files. This position also supports the maintenance of Human Resources Information Systems (HRIS) and payroll -

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Execute Phase One of the employees’ life cycle including, onboarding, background checks, references, I-9, recruiting etc.
  • Execute orientation of new employees on a set of frequency as assigned by the Human Resources Director.
  • Manage all employee records including.
  • Support the Payroll & HRIS Specialist in communication with, department heads, employees and carriers to ensure compliance with Worker’s Compensation, FMLA, STD, LTD, retirement, and other benefits.
  • Answer routine questions from employees and applicants about employment procedures and policies, benefits, and other HR-related topics.
  • Coordinates training programs for employees.
  • Orients new employees to policies and employee benefits.
  • Assists with annual compliance reporting.
  • Manage employee files and records in accordance with legal requirements, and CRT policies and procedures. Shredding any appropriate documentation
  • Respond to and direct employee inquiries regarding human resources services.
  • Complies with timelines and accuracy requirements for data entry, documentation, and other related files and forms.
  • Exercise professional discretion and confidentiality concerning all duties performed.
  • Create, maintain, and manage files for all interns and volunteers.
  • Assist Human Resources Director with Employee/Labor Relations responsibilities include conducting investigations, trainings, disciplinary actions and terminations.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with Union as applicable. Communicate, enforce and adhere to any and all Agency policies. Maintain a clear understanding of the Employee Handbook as well as Union contracts as applicable.
  • Processes various benefits and employment forms and provides information concerning all health and welfare and defined benefit plans; conducts employment verifications, background checks and assists with open enrollment.
  • Processes termination documentation, i.e., obtaining signatures; issuing copies to appropriate personnel; updating HRIS; payroll; and time & attendance systems which also include notification to appropriate departments of termination; termination letter; UC61.
  • Prepare reports, develop training, and participate in projects to support Agency programs and services.
  • Work collaboratively with key business partners, human resources representatives, and others to ensure all new hires are properly input in the HRIS system and coded from a payroll and compensation perspective.
  • Manage employees’ expired documents, maintain reports, communicate with managers, and ensure proper recordkeeping.
  • Responsible for managing all credentials for appropriate employees and departments. Serves as the recordkeeper and main point of contact for all auditing and regulatory authorities.
  • Provides employment information and answers questions regarding Job Openings in the Agency.
  • All other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

Associate’s degree with course work emphasis in Human Resources Management, Business Administration or related field preferred. Two to three years progressively responsible human resource administration experience that provides knowledge of human resources which includes recruitment, benefits and employee relations; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Experience working with Microsoft applications and HRIS software required. Knowledge of Federal, state and local laws pertaining to personnel administration and various compensation and benefit plans and practices. Sound understanding of practices and procedures specific to Human Resources. Driver’s License required to travel to other locations to meet with employees

  • Communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Speak effectively before groups of employees and respond to questions.
  • Read professional periodicals and journals, procedures and government regulations.
  • Effectively and efficiently provide customer service.
  • Handle stressful situations in a professional manner, including angry or difficult individuals.
  • Interpret a variety of written and verbal instructions with abstract and/or concrete variables.
  • File various forms of paperwork in alpha and numeric filing systems.
  • Apply Federal, state and local laws pertaining to personnel administration and various payroll, compensation and benefit plans and practices.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers supervisors, other Departments/Offices, and other agencies.
  • Use appropriate resources to solve problems.
  • Work independently.
  • Understand and practice safety procedures and precautions.
  • Maintain a high level of professionalism and confidentiality.

Physical Ability: Tasks involve sedentary to light work, involving some reaching, handling, fingering and/or feeling of objects and materials.

Sensory Requirements: Some tasks require visual perception and discrimination. Some tasks require oral communications ability.

Environmental Factors: Tasks are regularly performed without exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as dirt, dust, pollen, odors, wetness, humidity, rain, fumes, temperature and noise extremes, machinery, vibrations, electric currents, traffic hazards, animals/wildlife, toxic/poisonous agents, violence, disease, or pathogenic substances.
