Job summary

Mom's Meals is seeking an HR Generalist to partner with employees and managers, handling full HR scope and serving as the first contact for HR questions. The role is based at our Des Moines Fleur location with possible visits to Ankeny HQ as needed.

This position supports onboarding, employee relations, policy interpretation, and continuous improvements in HR programs, ensuring compliance and a positive workplace culture across site operations.

Qualifications

• Associate's degree in HR or related field, or minimum of 5+ years of HR related experience.
• Knowledge of general HR practices.
• Proven ability to effectively manage multiple tasks and work streams to deliver quality results.
• Experience with HR systems including timekeeping, payroll, and benefits.
• Strong customer service skills.
• Strong analytical skills with attention to detail.
• Strong presentation and communication skills.
• Experience utilizing productivity tools such as Microsoft Office, PowerPoint and SharePoint.

Responsibilities

• Conduct in person and virtual orientations and process new hires in HRIS, I-9/E-Verify systems.
• Maintain employee files and electronic records.
• Serve as the first point of contact for employee/manager questions about process, policy, compensation, benefits, and performance.
• Collaborate with HRBP and leaders to improve employee engagement and resolve issues.
• Handle tier 1 employee relations and assist with conflict resolution.
• Escalate concerns to HRBP or Employee Relations as needed.
• Support leave questions and escalate when necessary.
• Drive continuous improvement in HR programs aligned with company values.
• Ensure site compliance with policies and retention of talent.
• Support employee offboarding and unemployment claim responses.

The HR Generalist supports the full scope of human resources functions to ensure a positive, productive, and compliant workplace. This role serves as a key partner to employees and managers serving as the first point of contact for HR Related questions.

This position will be housed in our Des Moines Fleur location with possible minimal visits to our Ankeny headquarters as needed.

Position Responsibilities may include, but not limited to

• Conduct in person and virtual orientations and process new hires in applicable systems (HRIS, I-9/E-Verify)
• Maintain employee files and records in electronic format
• Serve as the first point of contact for employee/manager questions or concerns about process, policy, procedure, compensation, benefits, and performance or conduct
• Enhance job satisfaction by resolving issues promptly and partnering with HRBP and business leaders on conflict resolution and employee engagement activities
• Handle tier 1 employee relations issues and work towards amicable solutions with the business leader and HR Business Partner
• Evaluate and elevate employee concerns requiring additional intervention to the HRBP or Employee Relations team
• Support employee questions around leave and elevate to the HR Business Partner when necessary
• Drive continuous improvement in HR programs, proactively making recommendations for improvements in a manner consistent with the company's mission values
• Ensure employee and site compliance with company policies
• Encourage people and culture practices that promote retention of key talent
• Support employee offboarding for low-risk terminations (termination letter, termination processing-HRIS, badge access removal, personal item removal)
• Respond to unemployment claims and fact finding interviews

Required Skills and Experience

• Associate's degree in Human Resources or related field, or minimum of 5+ years of Human Resources related experience
• Knowledge of general HR practices
• Proven ability to effectively manage multiple tasks and work streams to deliver quality results
• Experience with HR systems to include timekeeping, payroll, benefits, etc.
• Strong customer service skills
• Strong analytical skills with excellent attention to detail
• Strong presentation and communication skills
• Experience utilizing productivity tools such as Microsoft Office, PowerPoint and SharePoint

Preferred Skills and Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Human Resources or related field
• Bilingual (English/Spanish)
• SHRM Certification
• Experience in Manufacturing and/or Healthcare industry

Physical Requirements

• Repetitive motions that include the wrists, hands and/or fingers
• Sedentary work that primarily involves sitting, remaining in a stationary position for prolonged periods
• Visual perception to perform job including peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus
