Job summary

Mid-States Bolt & Screw in Burton, MI is seeking an experienced HR Generalist to partner with leadership, support employees, and help scale our HR programs. This on-site role with occasional flex work will focus on strengthening HR processes and delivering practical solutions.

You will own onboarding, employee relations, performance reviews, training, compliance, and HR systems, collaborating with leaders to build a scalable, people‑first HR function across multiple sites.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in HR or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• PHR/SHRM-CP certification is a plus.
• 5+ years of progressive HR Generalist experience is preferred.
• Strong knowledge of employment laws and HR best practices.
• Proven ability to handle employee relations and performance management.

Responsibilities

• Be a trusted HR partner to employees and managers on relations, performance, and day-to-day HR needs.
• Lead onboarding, engagement, retention, and recognition initiatives.
• Coordinate performance evaluations, employee training, and leadership development.

We're looking for a proactive, people-focused HR professional who wants to help strengthen our HR programs, support our leaders and employees, and shape how we grow. Working directly with our VP of Human Resources, you'll have the opportunity to take ownership of key HR responsibilities, lead meaningful initiatives, and help build a scalable HR function.

What You'll Do

• Be a trusted HR partner: Support employees and managers with employee relations, performance management, workplace concerns, and day-to-day HR needs.
• Elevate the employee experience: Help lead initiatives focused on onboarding, employee engagement, retention, and recognition.
• Develop our people and leaders: Coordinate performance evaluations, employee training, leadership development, and workplace safety initiatives.
• Support our growth: Play an active role in integrating employees from newly acquired companies, including onboarding, benefits transitions, HR systems, and employee communications.
• Keep HR running smoothly: Manage core HR operations, employee documentation, leave administration, compliance, and HR systems.
• Make things better: Identify opportunities to streamline processes, leverage technology, and create consistent, efficient HR practices across our locations.

What We're Looking For

• 5+ years of progressive HR Generalist experience.
• Strong employee relations experience and knowledge of employment laws and HR best practices.
• Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Someone who takes initiative, works independently, and follows through.
• A collaborative, approachable professional who enjoys supporting employees and coaching managers.
• Experience in distribution, manufacturing, multi-location operations, or acquisition integration is a plus.
• Bachelor's degree in HR or a related field, or equivalent experience; PHR/SHRM-CP certification is a plus.
