Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced HR Generalist to support the day-to-day operations of the Human Resources department. This role will provide support across recruitment, employee relations, benefits administration, onboarding, performance management, training and development, HR compliance, HRIS administration, and personnel records management.
The HR Generalist will serve as a key resource for employees and managers, ensuring consistent application of company policies, employment laws, and HR best practices. The ideal candidate will have strong knowledge of federal, state, and local employment regulations, excellent communication skills, and hands‑on experience with HRIS and Applicant Tracking Systems.
Key Responsibilities
Recruitment & Onboarding
- Review and screen job applications and resumes to identify qualified candidates.
- Coordinate interviews and support preliminary candidate assessments.
- Coordinate pre‑employment screening, background checks, and related hiring activities.
- Facilitate new hire orientation and onboarding processes.
- Maintain accurate recruitment and onboarding documentation.
Employee Relations
- Serve as a primary point of contact for employees and managers regarding HR policies, procedures, and workplace concerns.
- Support employee relations activities, conflict resolution, and employee engagement initiatives.
- Promote a positive, inclusive, and professional workplace culture.
- Provide guidance to managers and employees regarding HR policies and procedures.
Benefits & Leave Administration
- Assist employees with benefits enrollment, qualifying life events, and benefits‑related inquiries.
- Coordinate annual benefits open enrollment activities.
- Communicate and coordinate with benefits providers and vendors.
- Administer employee leave programs in accordance with applicable laws and organizational policies.
- Support compliance with FMLA, ADA, and reasonable accommodation requirements.
Performance Management & Training
- Support annual performance review and evaluation processes.
- Assist managers with employee development plans, performance improvement initiatives, and coaching strategies.
- Coordinate employee training, professional development, and learning programs.
- Maintain accurate training records and compliance documentation.
HR Compliance & Policy Administration
- Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations.
- Maintain working knowledge of FLSA, FMLA, ADA, EEO, and other employment regulations.
- Assist with developing, implementing, and communicating HR policies and procedures.
- Support internal HR compliance audits and documentation requirements.
- Maintain confidentiality when handling sensitive employee and organizational information.
HRIS & Records Management
- Maintain accurate employee records and personnel files in the HRIS.
- Update employee information, employment status, benefits information, and other HR data.
- Maintain records within Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS).
- Generate HR reports, workforce analytics, and employment metrics.
- Prepare documentation and reports for management and compliance purposes.
Required Qualifications
- 3-5 years of progressive Human Resources experience.
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Public Administration, Organizational Development, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Strong knowledge of FLSA, FMLA, ADA, EEO, and applicable federal, state, and local employment laws.
- Hands‑on experience with HRIS and Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS).
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and conflict‑resolution skills.
- Ability to handle confidential and sensitive employee information with discretion.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting recruitment, employee relations, benefits administration, onboarding, performance management, and HR compliance.
- Experience with ADP HRIS and workforce management systems.
- Previous HR experience in public sector, municipal government, or government‑related environments.
- Professional HR certification such as SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, or SPHR.
