The J.M. Smucker Co. is hiring an HR Coordinator / Labor Scheduler at our Buffalo Milk-Bone facility.

This full-time, non-exempt role blends Human Resources and labor scheduling, partnering with employees, union leadership, and plant management to ensure a positive employee experience and efficient workforce operations. You will build labor schedules from production plans, coordinate overtime and bidding processes, manage training records, onboarding, and attendance, and report workforce metrics

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• 3+ years of HR, labor scheduling, or workforce coordination experience.
• Strong MS Office skills.
• Experience in a manufacturing or unionized setting is a plus.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities.

In This Role You Will:

Labor Scheduling & Workforce Coordination

• Assess departmental labor needs based on production schedules and business demands to create labor schedules that support efficient operations.
• Organize and schedule employees weekly based on qualifications, staffing requirements, and employee availability.
• Coordinate plant postings for weekend overtime sign-ups, voluntary layoff programs, and daily overtime opportunities.
• Partner with leaders to anticipate staffing needs and adjust schedules to support changing production demands.
• Provide labor and workforce reports to HR leadership and Payroll, including employees who are out of work.

Training & Employee Development

• Coordinate and participate in hourly management, union training, and labor committee meetings.
• Manage production employee assignments, training administration, and qualification tracking.
• Maintain employee training records, certifications, and qualification databases to ensure compliance and operational readiness.
• Ensure training and qualification records are accurately documented while maintaining employee seniority records.
• Generate training and qualification reports as needed to support business and compliance requirements.
• Administer the hourly job bidding process, including posting opportunities, awarding positions, coordinating training, scheduling evaluations, and maintaining supporting documentation.

Human Resources Support

• Partner with Payroll to support attendance programs by tracking employee attendance, preparing attendance documentation, and generating monthly reports.
• Monitor, track, and review vacation requests while managing eligibility and maintaining accurate vacation records.
• Work closely with Payroll to ensure vacation requests are properly documented, approved, and processed.
• Create and maintain personnel and medical files with a high degree of accuracy and confidentiality.
• Support onboarding activities, including preparing new hire documentation and assisting with orientation processes.
• Process unemployment claims and maintain employee records in accordance with company policies.
• Support administration of the Employee Product Purchase Program, including coordination and product distribution.
• Assist with employee engagement initiatives, plant celebrations, recognition programs, communications, onboarding activities, and special HR projects.

Union & Employee Relations

• Serve as a key point of coordination between employees, union representatives, and plant leadership.
• Participate in labor, training, and employee committee meetings.
• Help maintain workforce records and ensure employees have access to accurate information regarding scheduling, bidding, training, and qualifications.

Compensation Range: $48,500 - $69,300 annualized ($23.32 - $33.32 per hour)

What We Are Looking For

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• 3+ years of relevant experience in Human Resources, labor scheduling, workforce coordination, or a related field.
• Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office applications.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
• Excellent communication, organizational, and relationship-building skills.

Additional Skills and Experience That We Think Would Make Someone Successful in This Role

• Labor scheduling experience in a manufacturing environment.
• Prior Human Resources experience supporting hourly employees.
• Experience working in a unionized facility.
• Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business, or a related field.
• Experience with Workday or other HR information systems.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate records.
• Proven ability to collaborate with employees, union representatives, and leaders across all levels of the organization.
