Job summary

Thurgood Marshall College Fund, Inc. is seeking a highly motivated HR Coordinator to provide administrative support to the Human Resources Department in a hybrid, Washington, DC setting.

The role covers payroll assistance, benefits enrollment, HRIS maintenance, record keeping, and support for staff development initiatives. You will maintain HR files, answer routine HR questions, assist with onboarding and recruiting efforts, coordinate trainings and events, and help ensure compliance with

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in HR development/management or related field preferred.
  • Minimum of two years’ HR-related experience and knowledge of federal/state employment laws.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills; ability to work independently.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain accurate HR files, records, and documentation.
  • Answer routine HR questions from applicants and employees; route complex questions as needed.
  • Maintain confidentiality of HR files and records and conduct periodic audits.
  • Assist with payroll processing, benefits enrollment/termination, and HRIS data entry.
  • Coordinate with IT and operations for equipment tracking and HR-related events.
  • Support recruitment efforts, onboarding, and staff development programs.

Job description

Thurgood Marshall College Fund (TMCF) is the nation’s largest organization exclusively representing the black college community. TMCF member-schools include the publicly supported Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and several Predominantly Black Institutions (PBIs). We are seeking a highly motivated, organized, and personable candidate who can add value to our Human Resources Department. The Coordinator, Human Resources provides administrative support to the Human Resources (HR) Department. They are responsible for fielding first level HR requests and maintaining a positive working relationship with all staff members. They must be able to work independently in a fast-paced environment while multi-tasking to assist with planning and organizing various HR functions. The HR Coordinator assists with payroll processing, benefits administration, employee development initiatives, safety programs and record keeping, staffing management, training, maintaining the HR Information Systems, document compliance, and providing general administrative support to the Department.

Assistant Vice President of Human Resources

Responsibilities:
  • Maintains accurate and up-to-date human resource files, records, and documentation.
  • Answers frequently asked questions from applicants and employees relative to standard policies, benefits, hiring processes, etc.; refers more complex questions to appropriate senior-level HR staff or management.
  • Maintains the integrity and confidentiality of human resource files and records.
  • Performs periodic audits of HR files and records to ensure that all required documents are collected and filed appropriately.
  • Maintain affirmative Action Plan
  • Maintain agency ACA reporting
  • Order office supplies when appropriate for remote staff
  • Assists with employee benefits enrollment and termination, which includes maintaining adequate supplies of benefits information for distribution
  • Maintain and update HR calendar
  • Track Learning Management system trainings
  • Track Evaluations
  • Coordinate with IT to track equipment distribution
  • Coordinate with operation to track TMCF inventory
  • Provides clerical support to the HR department.
  • Maintain consultant and intern files
  • Assists with planning and execution of special events such as benefits enrollment, property-wide meetings, employee recognition events, holiday parties, and retirement celebrations.
  • May assist in facilitating recruitment efforts through events and other strategies when needed
  • May be involved in administering the Transfer/Promotion process
  • Acts under the direction of the Director to include employee disciplinary action and termination of employment.
  • Works with Recruiter and Onboarding to ensure all new hires are in the HRIS system correctly
  • Assists and directs employees to appropriate people regarding FMLA and disability concerns
  • Assists with staff development for all levels of staff within the organization through the acquisition of knowledge, skills, attitudes, abilities, and competencies which result in improved job performance as assigned.
  • Enhances staff competencies through the development of training activities as assigned.
  • Assists in planning and conducting management training and employee education on human resource related topics to include, but not limited to, New Employee Orientation, as assigned.
  • May assist in planning and implementing staff development programs such as mentoring, employee recognition and career development.
  • Is responsible for entering and monitoring data accurately into the Human Resource Information System
  • Provides input into the formulation and modification of policies and procedures.
  • Follows up promptly on recommendations, concerns and complaints.
  • Is knowledgeable and assures compliance with state and Federal employment laws, Agency policies and all applicable regulations and standards as it relates to the work performed.
  • Implements specialized employee programs.
  • Adheres to Personnel Policy Handbook and follows all Agency Procedures.
  • Attends and participates in in-service training, staff meetings and other activities to facilitate professional development.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Competencies and Qualifications:
  • Minimum high school diploma or equivalent
  • Bachelor’s degree in human resource development, Human Resource Management or related degree preferred.
  • Minimum of two years’ HR related experience. Knowledge of current Federal and state employment laws.
  • A work history which demonstrates a high degree of accuracy, organizational skills, judgment, tact and the ability to work independently, meet the public and interact with all levels of staff.
  • Experience working in the field of health or human services, or intellectual disabilities preferred.
Additional Information:

The anticipated compensation range for this position is: Annual Salary: $45,000 – $55,000 annually Bonus eligibility: Up to 3% of Annual salary Actual compensation will be determined based on relevant experience, skills, internal equity, and organizational needs, in accordance with applicable laws.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

This position may involve extended computer use, lifting up to 15 pounds, and require evening and weekend work. Participation in and assistance with special TMCF events may necessitate a temporary change in normal working conditions, including a shift in days or hours worked, and/or working in alternative locations (e.g., outdoors).
