Job Description Summary

The HR Associate - Total Rewards provides operational and administrative support for MarinHealth employee benefits, leave programs, and related Total Rewards activities. The role serves as a responsive resource for employees, managers, HR partners, and vendors; processes benefit and leave transactions; maintains accurate information in Workday and related systems; and supports reporting, audits, employee communications, annual enrollment activities, and process improvements. The HR Associate applies established policies, plan provisions, procedures, and escalation protocols consistently; protects confidential information; identifies and resolves routine discrepancies; and escalates complex, sensitive, or policy-related matters to the appropriate Total Rewards or HR partner. The position demonstrates MarinHealth's C.A.R.E.S. values through accurate, timely, respectful, and service-oriented support.

Job Requirements, Prerequisites and Essential Functions

EducationAssociate degree or equivalent combination of education and directly relevant Human Resources experience preferred. Bachelor's degree in human resources, Business Administration, or a related field preferred.

ExperienceMinimum two (2) years of Human Resources, benefits, leave administration, HR operations, or closely related experience required. Experience supporting employee benefits, leave administration, Total Rewards, or another HR program area preferred. Experience processing employee transactions, responding to employee inquiries, maintaining confidential records, and performing data audits or reconciliations preferred. Experience using an HRIS to support employee data, transactions, reporting, and data management required; Workday experience preferred. Experience in a healthcare and/or unionized environment preferred.

Licenses & CertificationsCertified Employee Benefit Specialist (CEBS) or related benefits credential preferred. SHRM-CP, PHR, or comparable Human Resources certification preferred.

Prerequisite SkillsStrong customer-service and interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate benefits, leave, and HR process information clearly, respectfully, and within assigned scope. Ability to interpret and apply established plan provisions, policies, procedures, eligibility rules, and process requirements consistently and elevate questions requiring interpretation or correction. Strong attention to detail and demonstrated ability to enter, review, reconcile, and audit employee and benefits data accurately. Analytical and problem-solving skills sufficient to identify discrepancies, research routine issues, determine appropriate next steps, and escalates unresolved or higher-risk matters. Ability to manage multiple transactions, inquiries, deadlines, and recurring activities while maintaining timely follow-through and appropriate documentation. Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint; ability to use spreadsheets for routine data review, reconciliation, and reporting. Ability to learn and effectively use Workday and other benefits, leave, vendor, and reporting systems. Demonstrated discretion and sound judgment when handling confidential employee, medical, benefits, leave, and organizational information. Ability to collaborate effectively with employees, managers, HR partners, Payroll, vendors, and other stakeholders.
