Job summary

Orion Castings in the United States seeks a Tooling Engineer to drive HPDC dies and tooling through design, production, and launch. You will evaluate die castability, manufacturability, and tooling feasibility while optimizing cooling, gating, ejectors, and venting.

You will lead root-cause analysis and DOE to reduce scrap and downtime. You will collaborate with Manufacturing Engineering, Quality, and suppliers to ensure safety, cost, and performance targets are met.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical/Manufacturing/Tooling Engineering or related field.
• 3+ years of tooling, die casting, or manufacturing engineering experience.
• Experience with high-pressure aluminum or magnesium die casting preferred.
• Ability to read engineering drawings and GD&T; CAD proficiency required.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and manage HPDC dies and tooling from concept through production.
• Review product designs for die castability, manufacturability, and tooling feasibility.
• Improve die designs including cooling, gating, and venting.
• Support die trials, tooling launches, and first-off inspections.
• Troubleshoot defects such as flash, porosity, and dimensional variation.
• Lead tooling improvements using root-cause analysis and DOE.
• Coordinate die repairs with internal toolrooms and external suppliers.
• Develop tooling specs, RFQs, and technical requirements for new projects.
• Monitor tooling performance, die life, downtime, and maintenance costs.
• Establish preventive maintenance standards for dies and tooling.
• Support APQP, PPAP, PFMEA, and new product launches.
• Maintain tooling drawings, revisions, and documentation.
• Identify opportunities to reduce scrap, cycle time, and downtime while improving OEE.
