Job summary

Jefferson Lab invites applications for a High-Performance Computing (HPC) Systems Engineer in Newport News, VA. The role focuses on architecting, deploying, and maintaining large-scale hardware, distributed storage, and low-latency networking for our scientific computing ecosystem.

The successful candidate will blend deep Linux administration with infrastructure-as-code automation (Ansible/Foreman) to support petabyte-scale clusters and ensure high availability and reliable data movement for

Qualifications

3+ years of enterprise Linux system administration experience.
Experience in production environments with high availability.
Experience with automating test procedures.
Preferred: experience with NP/HEP HPC tools like Slurm, Rucio, Globus, XRootD.

Responsibilities

Collaboratively design and implement software infrastructure for HPC/HTC with containerization and orchestration.
Deploy, maintain, and operate physical infrastructure for scientific computing services.
Create highly available services from hardware to user applications.
Engage with users to meet performance and availability requirements.
Develop software to address gaps in existing tools.
Audit and recommend architectural changes to improve performance, security, and availability.
Contribute to upstream development of community tools.
Work with students and interns on research projects.
