Job summary

University of Central Florida seeks a Software Developer I to operate high performance computing clusters, manage user accounts, install software, develop code, and supervise students. The role emphasizes Linux/Unix, Slurm scheduling, and research collaboration across campus.

Ideal candidates have substantial C/C++/Python experience, familiarity with Anaconda, and strong communication skills. The position supports researchers and requires Monday–Friday scheduling with potential for growth.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree; or High School Diploma (or equivalent) and 4 years of relevant work experience in lieu of degree; or an equivalent combination of education and experience pursuant to Fla. Stat. 112.219(6).
• Proven experience as a Software Developer, Software Engineer, or similar role, particularly within a simulation or research-focused environment.
• In-depth knowledge of high-performance computing and research collaboration platforms.
• Strong proficiency with Linux/Unix-based operating systems.
• Expertise in C, C++, and Python, with experience in using Anaconda for development.
• Proven ability to develop and maintain software for deployed applications.
• Experience with job scheduling software like Slurm or similar, especially for technical or scientific applications.
• Eagerness and ability to quickly learn new programming languages and technologies.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.

Responsibilities

• Support creation of user accounts of high performance computing clusters.
• Install of software (compiling and installing) in Linux-based computing clusters.
• Maintain of job scheduling software (e.g. Slurm).
• Provide technical support for users of computing clusters (orientations, addressing problems, etc.).
• Design and maintain of storage and networking systems within computer clusters.
• Co-supervise student assistants.
