Job summary

Berkeley Lab is seeking a Cybersecurity Group Lead for NERSC to guide a team of security engineers in safeguarding HPC infrastructure and data assets. The role emphasizes strategic leadership, risk-based decision-making, and collaboration with DOE policies.

The ideal candidate will drive security architecture, lead cross-functional initiatives, and mentor staff while ensuring compliance and open-science collaboration.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree with 8+ years of experience, including 3+ years in a lead role securing a complex computer system or HPC data center.
• Proven ability to hire, train and mentor technical staff.
• Experience developing security policy and compliance reports.
• Strong communication and presentation skills to senior management.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and lead a team of security engineers for the security architecture and infrastructure of NERSC.
• Participate in 24/7 on-call rotation and investigate security incidents to resolution.
• Support the security risk management program, ensuring DOE/ government compliance while maintaining open science.
• Represent NERSC in interactions with existing and prospective stakeholders.
• Collaborate with Leadership and other teams to identify risks and architect secure solutions.
• Lead the evaluation, development and implementation of security engineering designs and operations practices.
• Manage projects: assign engineers, allocate resources, and track progress.
• Stay current on cybersecurity threats and best practices; address unique issues with analysis of data.
• Provide line management for the Security team, including recruitment, mentoring, and performance reviews.
