Job summary

Oak Ridge National Laboratory seeks a Group Leader and technical expert to lead a new secure HPC group. You will direct classified/unclassified HPC infrastructure, enforce security policies, and manage budgets while mentoring engineers.

The role requires DoD/IC leadership experience and strong Linux, SLURM, and interconnect skills. The position emphasizes strategic planning, collaboration with researchers, and adherence to strict security and compliance standards within a highly regulated

Qualifications

• Current TS clearance with SCI eligibility
• BS degree in Information Technology or technical equivalent and a minimum of 12 years of experience in HPC or related environments
• Deep knowledge of Linux systems, cluster management tools (SLURM, PBS), parallel file systems (Lustre, GPFS), and high-performance interconnects (InfiniBand)
• Extensive experience in classified environments and strong security policy understanding
• Proven supervisory or management experience within a technical team including project management and talent development
• Proficiency in scripting languages like Bash, Python, or Perl; familiarity with C/C++ or other scientific languages
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills; strong communication skills

Responsibilities

• Plan, organize, and direct all activities related to classified and unclassified HPC or IT systems including architecture, deployment, data center operations and maintenance
• Implement and enforce security policies and compliance frameworks (NIST, DISA STIGs) for computing assets
• Oversee division budget for hardware, software, and staffing; manage resource allocation, job scheduling and load balancing
• Lead and mentor a team of engineers and administrators; ensure team has needed skills
• Develop long-term strategic plans for computing environment and lead projects from conception to completion
• Monitor system performance, identify bottlenecks, and resolve hardware/software/network issues to minimize downtime
• Collaborate with researchers, scientists and internal IT/security teams to support projects
