Job summary

Homes for the Homeless in Queens, NY is seeking a Housing Specialist for our Jamaica-based Families with Children facility. You will assist families with creating an exit strategy and locating permanent housing.

The role requires relevant experience, strong intake and reporting skills, and the ability to travel across NYC via public transit. We offer a competitive salary and comprehensive benefits.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma required; bachelor's or associate degree preferred.
• At least one year of relevant experience.
• Experience working with brokers and landlords.
• Ability to travel by public transportation to all 5 boroughs and outside NYC.
• Bi-lingual is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Conduct housing intakes.
• Create an exit strategy by exploring the client's needs.
• Complete housing reports and maintain up-to-date progress notes.
• Meet weekly, monthly, and quarterly move-out targets.
• Conducts monthly housing workshops with clients.
• Provide clients with housing referrals and leads.
• Develop and maintain positive working relationships with DHS staff.
• Develop and cultivate relationships with brokers, agents, landlords, and community agencies to gain housing leads.
• Schedule appointments for apartment viewings.
• Accompany clients to open houses, apartment viewings, and lease signings.
• Other duties as assigned.
